By creating Mods for Panzer Corps I found some restrictions, which prevents me adding some feature I would like to implement.
I used/tested Panzer Corps V1.20 to V1.24 for this.
- Some files are ignored, if they are in Mods folder; you have to store them central in the Panzer Corps directories overwriting the original files (examples are in my Mod Italia Victor!)
- Bridge units can't act as bridges over canals (only small and major rivers).
- If you place (major) rivers in harbors (in the Panzer Corps editor), river boats can't use this tiles any more.
- Tiles of shallow water are missing in the editor; deep water tiles are used, if you generate the tiles. You can use shallow water nevertheless, but without own tiles it's difficult for the players.
- Normal upgrade of ships (in harbors or between scenarios) is not possible. As I use ships as core units this would be useful.
- Flag "minekiller" doesn't work for ships ("minesweeper" works).
- If you have a unit with more then two switch modes (standard units have only one or two modes), then you want to assign "primary" once and "nopurchase" for the other switch modes.
But if you assign the nopurchase flag in two modes in a row, using the unit in the game let it crash.
- The default difficulty can't be modded (at least I found no way).
E.g. if I move "checked" in gameoptions.htm to level 1, still the default values are used (level 3, if level 3 is unchanged) until you click at another level.
Or if I redefine level 3 in diff.pzdat, still the default values are used, until the user click at "my" level 3.
- Remove-Traits don't works in equipment.pzdat (you can use some of it in Add-Traits for removing a feature)
Cheers,
Peter

Re: Restrictions of Panzer Corps from point of view of mods
this tbh isn't a tech question, more of a modding issue sorry that's for the developers to answer, i'd repost in the modding forum for a better or more correct answer, thanks
Re: Restrictions of Panzer Corps from point of view of mods
Thank you for your answer zakblood_slith.
But as I'm not searching for workarounds only the developers can help me by improving Panzer Corps.
I'm happy about the possibilities for making Mods at Panzer Corps.
But as you see in by description there are still restrictions.
May be development like to improve some of my points. I have no better idea writing to development then writing here.
Thank you, Peter

But you can switch a ship to a bridge-unit.- Bridge units can't act as bridges over canals (only small and major rivers).
All you need to do to prevent this CTD is to put a non-existing nation flag to the alternative units. You may than have as many alternatives as you want; and the unit keeps the parent unit's flag. But if you assign the nopurchase flag in two modes in a row, using the unit in the game let it crash.

Nice idea! I think I'll use this for my subs.LuftWFJ44 wrote:But you can switch a ship to a bridge-unit.- Bridge units can't act as bridges over canals (only small and major rivers).
I don't understand this idea.
Yes, it's possible to switch between a ground unit (here a inf) to a ship. But I don't think a ship can act as bridge for other ground units.

But you can't do this for a ground unit, which has the abillity for conquering cities. The city would get a wrong flag this way.
Thanks!

No it wouldn't - the unit will keep the flag of its original form. For instance, a German unit can't magically turn into an Italian unless a script has been added in the scenario.peterw wrote:The city would get a wrong flag this way.

It is not a ship anymore, it is a bridgeYes, it's possible to switch between a ground unit (here a inf) to a ship. But I don't think a ship can act as bridge for other ground units.
Like BNC says, and like I said : "the unit keeps the parent unit's flag"But you can't do this for a ground unit, which has the abillity for conquering cities. The city would get a wrong flag this way.
Re: Restrictions of Panzer Corps from point of view of mods
With "canal" I mean e.g. the Suez canal. PzC names this "strait".It is not a ship anymore, it is a bridgeit worked for me with the river boats. Maybe I did not understand the word "canals"... if it was a sea hex, than no, it may not work, of course.
At default ground unit can access a canal hex like a minor river (has to stop before it...). And ships can use the canal (with half speed) like a high sea hex.
A bridge in PzC is a road feature on a hex. At default a bridge unit works as a bridge over rivers but not over "strait".
I'm not sure, if I understand you now.
Thank you for the explanation! But you can't do this for a ground unit, which has the abillity for conquering cities. The city would get a wrong flag this way.
