I am personally not a fan of alternative history, but I started watching this one. My wife who is not a big fan as well, is watching it with me. The show is "The Man in the High Castle" on Amazon.
I had to get over the idea that the Germans and Japanese won. I don't think it would have been possible, but it is an alternative history. I decided to view this in that there may be alternative universes and run with it. After I did that, it worked much better in my mind. The style (a freaking swastika in Times Square with "Work will set you free" , the same thing over Auschwitz!), cool clothes and cars of the era and a police that would make you grateful for ours today. (Not that it couldn't be better) The swastika instead of our stars, man that makes me so (censored)
anyway, here is the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzz_6dmv03I
I hope some of you enjoy it.

A messed up twist on Edelweiss from "Sound of Music" Just messed up and worth taking a break from testing.

That is after the book by Philip Dick, right?
I read that about 40 years ago (yep, I'm getting old).
He also wrote 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' which was the basis for Blade Runner.

It is based on this book. However, since it is a series I believe it is the "based on" which can mean the title and basic premise is the same, but we ran with it from there.Erik wrote:That is after the book by Philip Dick, right?

I usually read books before they are made into movies, but not this one. Now I want to read the book, but that could spoil the series.

Germany had a very good chance of winning the war in 1940/1941, only they tended to stuff up at really important times (mostly due to some silly man who spends his days screaming angry things in front of huge crowds!) - if they didn't start bombing London, they could have (possibly) invaded the UK. If they focussed on Moscow instead of Kiev, the USSR would be in really deep trouble. If they didn't declare war on the USA... the list goes on.Mercutio wrote:idea that the Germans and Japanese won. Japan: maybe if they launched a third wave of planes at Pearl Harbour (and blew up the US oil stocks there) and/or didn't waste three hours at Midway switching their planes over to bombs, and then back to torpedoes. They certainly didn't come as close as Germany though.
I know, this is a little off-topic for an OT thread, but whatever

I watched the first season on Prime. Pretty entertaining but unfortunately the characters are morons. Can't do anything right.
Another good book is SS-GB by Len Deighton. It is along the same lines only it takes place in England.

Definitely. But it makes games more interesting when you do the opposite to the real leaders!Richard1 wrote:I'ts a good job they didn't do any of those things!BiteNibbleChomp wrote:Germany had a very good chance of winning the war in 1940/1941, only they tended to stuff up at really important times (mostly due to some silly man who spends his days screaming angry things in front of huge crowds!) - if they didn't start bombing London, they could have (possibly) invaded the UK.
