As Swifter than Eagles has never been released for Digital FOG, can someone give me some alternative armies I can use from the current released modules (I own all of them so no problem on selecting from a particular book)

Help on Army Selection
I am currently playing around with the new FOG and want to try out my favourite armies in a hotseat DAG; Egyptians and Assyrians (I am a fan of Charles Grant's "Apocryphal Well"
)
As Swifter than Eagles has never been released for Digital FOG, can someone give me some alternative armies I can use from the current released modules (I own all of them so no problem on selecting from a particular book)

Guess that's the answer then, to replicate Assyrians in FOG you need Swifter than Eagles, which doesn't look like it will ever be part of this game which is a shame....

Why don't you use the scenario editor?Strider wrote:*...Tumbleweed...*![]()

Because I don't want to have to make a scenario every time I want to play Assyrians or Egyptians.
We now have DAG hotseat where you can select armies (from the books). That's what I am after.
So unless you are saying you can make your own "book" from which you can then select armies in the DAG Hotseat mode....?
Appreciate you responding, is the above possible?
PS. There is no editor in FOG (U)
(Coming soon I understand)

Sorry if that was offensive sounding, just being my usual sarcastic self.Strider wrote:Because I don't want to have to make a scenario every time I want to play Assyrians or Egyptians.

No, you will not be able to make you own books ( though that would be awesome...)
I'm not sure how expansive the new FOG will be for non MP play DAG battles, original FOg wasn't too good as the Ai always bought the same troops, never bought allies, always took max commanders and always deployed linearly across the map...
The new FOg should offer the ability to at least load a preselected army to fight against, although I'm not sure if we can deploy for the AI as well... Those two things will be half the battle, as I doubt the actual AI will be any better... I cant check as the latest install of the beta wont run on my PC and Im just going to wait for the official version to d/l.
The only thing I can think of is that one of the DAG lists form Immortal fire features some Assyrian heavy infantry. You could play an offset match point wise and simply buy only troops that would be pretty darn close to what you feel an Assyrian army would look like. ( by offset point I mean you bring a 1000 Ap army to battle but only purchase 500 points worth... You can do this to get around the list minimums/increase the maximums.)
Makingquick down and dirty scenarios is pretty easy in FOG original, it will likely be even easier in unity as you can "save as" so to speak, maps are separate file form the scenario so you could create a couple of armies and simply "save as", add delete forces as needed, change the map.
Cheers man.
Edit, oops, the Assyrian foot are actually in the early Persian lists, and you can only take 0-3 of them even at 1000 points so that probably not going to help you much.

No problem, life is too short to be offended by anything in a forum, as I said I appreciated you taking the time to respond.TheGrayMouser wrote:Sorry if that was offensive sounding, just being my usual sarcastic self.
I appreciate your efforts and it has confirmed my own attempts, that you just can't create battles for this period of history; I am not a FOG expert so please correct me if I am overstating the point.TheGrayMouser wrote:Edit, oops, the Assyrian foot are actually in the early Persian lists, and you can only take 0-3 of them even at 1000 points so that probably not going to help you much.
But maybe they should just produce "Swifter than Eagles" or at least confirm that some point in the future it will appear? An Ancient warfare game that will never cover the entire biblical period.... surely not?
