This might be slightly redundant to ask, because I think the rules are quite clear, but I have played a few games where everybody neglected to act on these rules and I did not think it strange because of the troops involved - only realized the impact later when I read the rules through again.
Any "shock" foot have to pass a CMT not to charge enemy foot. No distinction between Drilled and Undrilled. Any "Impact Foot" are classed as "shock" and also any "Pike" and any "Offensive Spearmen" to mention a few. So, that said, in the open and versus enemy foot, Roman Legionaries (Impact Foot), Spartan Drilled Offensive Spearmen and also all my opponent's Seleucid Superior Pikemen actually had to pass a CMT when they came within 3MU's of my heavy foot to stop them from charging ?
Is this statement correct ?
Anybody who sees a Kn on the table immediately points out to you that you have to make CMT's not to charge him, but somehow nobody points that out to anybody with a Drilled Roman army or Drilled Offensive Spearmen army.
Confirmation on my understanding of this will be great.

Yes - even if behind their own LF, or other troups.Floyd1 wrote:Just some further clarification - Shock foot not behind their own LF and apposed by enemy LF still needs to pass a CMT not to charge the enemy LF ?
The only times they don't have to check are; if the troups in front can't be burst through, or if the move could enter bad terrain.

See page 58, right hand column.
If shock troops cannot contact enemy without passing through friends, and the only enemy in reach is skirmishers, they do not need to test.
