Did the prices have changed? / Steam prices

Post by umimatsu666 »

Hi,

today i wanted to buy a couple of games and was confused, because of the translation from Euro / £ to Dollar. In the past the prices dependent on the conversion rate. Now buyers from UK / Europ have to pay a little bit more. Why the change? Also inexplicable for me are the prices on Steam. Battle of the Bulge f.e. is priced at 9,99 Euro, on the Slitherine shop at 10,99 Euro. :?:

Please don't get me wrong, i'm not pi**ed off because of paying scubby 1 Euro more per game. But i don't understand, why digital copies of a product in Europe are more expensive than in the U.S.

Regards

a still satisfied customer

This is the current information i have, so it's as upto date as it can be known, i have copied it from a post made over at Matrix and here's the link for you http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3975430 in there, there is a few posts on the subject which explain reason and give good and better answers than i could have done, hope it helps
Hi guys,

Our store always does as direct a currency conversion as possible - keep in mind that we can't get the same rate as a bank doing a conversion and you'll get to the right ballpark.

As far as Steam goes, I double-checked today and it seems that we simply have no control over how they convert the prices for other countries and they make some very bizarre choices. Our own conversion is set to be as fair as possible, unfortunately theirs is not.

Unfortunately, in addition to this incorrect conversion, Steam also takes a significant cut. If you are fortunate enough to have money not be an object, purchasing directly through our store is a much bigger help for our devs and ourselves.

Regards,

- Erik
