Later Seleucid 15mm Minis

Post by Zarvd »

Hey all - just after any suggestions people might have for some decent minis for a late seleucid army. I've checked out Essex and Black Hat and was just wondering if I'd missed any decent manufacturers.

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

Russ.

I quite like the Donnington range.

Have a look at

http://www.15mm.co.uk/The_Selucid_and_s ... states.htm

They're what used to be Table Top Games figures (TTG) from some years ago and I think they have real character. ( Though I have Late Romans not Seleucids)

I have a mix of OG, Xyston and Black Hat. My only complaint with xyston is that they need to take the guys off of HGH. I swear they are 18mm or something.

So far I really like the black hat stuff and it's cheap. I especially like their Cats.

I third the accolades. Very splendid painting expendablecinc. Once upon a time I had a Later Seleucid army in 15mm-- mostly Minifigs and Tabletop figures-- but not nearly this spectacular looking.

Other manufacturer making Seleucid minis are:

- Old Glory 15's: http://oldglory15s.com/catalog/index.ph ... 39&sort=3a
- Museum Miniatures: http://www.museumminiatures.co.uk/pages/index.htm
- Chariot: http://www.magistermilitum.com/prodtype ... istory=cat
- Feudal Castings/Freikorps: http://quickreactionforce.co.uk/catalog ... Path/21_27

For my army, I went with Donington (for the phalanx, romanized infantry, galatian and thorakitai) and Freikorps (for the elephants, cataphracts, agema, companions, thracians with Romphaia, and skirmishers) and Xyston (for the mounted generals) because I wanted a suitably late period look to my army and found that these manufacturers were perfect for that (the donington range looks just like the colour plates from "the Seleucid Army" book from N. Sekunda), they matched well sizewise ( black hat and Chariot are noticeably smaller and thinner, they mix well together but not with Donington and Freikorps), and the icing on the cake... the cavalry from freikorps is the most beautiful I've seen!

Thanks,

The only problem is its too small and there a lot of time invested in the painting. My target FoG list has four battle groups of 12 Pike and currently I can only field 12 bases.

I am really looking forward to having 2 BGs of scythed chariots tearing around like maniacs.

Beautiful minatures, Expendable! Thanks for posting that gallery. I've just begun painting up a Later Seleucid army. I'm trying to figure out a paint scheme to go with. Many Seleucids I see on the internet are painted in a faux-Roman style: mostly red, with brass and blue highlights. Is that authentic? Does anyone care? What are some good suggestions for Seleucid color schemes?

As for colours, I have read that they were very colorful. Ancient warfare released an issue on Hellenistic kingdoms and you can find there some good illustrations to give you some ideas. One article deals precisely with the color issue.

I went with :
- simple Macedonian linen/white for the obvious Macedonian artifact troops (pike/xystophoroi)
- romanesque colours only for the romanised argyraspids
- a mix of garish colours for other troops it is a Persian empire after all
- a mix of drab colours for the peasantry/levies/tribals
- traditional colours for the vassal/mercenary units (gallatians and thracians)
