GC West vs East difficulty

Post by Imarion »

Hello,
Is there any difference in difficulty between the 2 campaigns ?
If yes which one is easier ?

Earlier this year I was stuck in 1943 east, missing prestige.
I recently restarted, playing more cautiously, but I'm thinking about going west this time.
That is, unless it is said to be even more difficult :)

Personally I find West a bit easier - there's some challenges and it pays to plan ahead to develop your units a bit differently, but that's not a biggie. There was a thread on this a few months ago that might be useful to look at.

I feel that the air power in the west is significantly more challenging than in the east, so I usually build more air and less tanks than I do when I go east. Also, more infantry and artillery with fewer tanks.

I'm a bit late, thanks for the info.
I still hesitate a bit, I'm at Minsk 1941.

I finished GC East 1941 yesterday on General. The Soviet scenarios were fairly easy, mostly due to lack of serious air force on their side. The only scenario I had to re-start was Streets of Moscow. I got kind of lucky on my second attempt with weather and managed to wipe all the Soviets out! :D

Now getting ready for Vitebsk!

You will regret that statement very soon: Just wait for '44/'45 to come around!

I know, I'm just being cocky a little bit  I played nikividd's GTPG before and had a good taste of fighting off hordes of Soviet armor and never ending waves of air attacks. I'm really curious to see how late Grand Campaign scenarios are in terms of difficulty compared to that!

I have uploaded my '45 East playthrough onto the AAR forum. That should give you an idea of what to expect!

I will warn that my core was on average only 1* units with a couple of "Superhero" units (5*), but I doubt having an entire army of 5* Gebirgsjagers would have made much difference
