What happens to the attached HQ if you upgrade a unit to SS

What happens to the attached HQ if you upgrade a unit to SS

If you make a unit into an SS unit and it has an HQ attached, what happens to the HQ? Does the unit come back with the HQ still attached, or do you need to detach it first (and lose 5 PP)? Am just worried that the HQ might "disappear" if I don't unattach it, but I don't want to lose 5PPs if it's not necessary to detach it.
