intercept charge - can it contact new enemy?

Post by madaxeman »

ie, enemy not actually declaring a charge that phase, but who just happen to be (partially) in the path of the intercept chargers on their way to doing their interception thang ?

Isn't it precluded by the interceptors being unable to get past the troops in the way, so no interception is possible?

As long as it crosses the path of the chargers (or hits their flank/rear) there is nothing I can see in the rules to stop it contacting other enemy. I've had this situation arise too, and wondered about it. The rules for intercept charges do not mention third party BG of either side. They just say you can't shift, change formaton or interpenetrate.

We couldnt find anythig in the rules to cover it either - and the unit that would have been "charged" by the interceptors were skirmishers to make it even more opaque!

The situation was where two lines of units were lined up but offset and with a staggered frontage, so the 2-element-wide intercept chargers would only need to charge straigt forwards to hit the "actual" chargers, but one of their bases would have contacted another unit before they reached the "actual" chargers position

See the FAQ. Interceptors don't actually contact the enemy chargers (except in flank/rear), they must stop short and the enemy chargers contact them.

It would be reasonable to assume that this also applies to other enemy - they must stop short of them. (Or you could go for the full half hour argument, but that would be silly, wouldn't it).

In the situation where the intercept hits the enemy flank/rear you would have a better case.
