Game crash?

Post by kirk23 »

Does anyone know what this highlights as a problem because it keeps crashing ?

[08:22:35][904]*** Starting naval AI ***
[08:23:24][904]Resume: false, ai/cost.lua:0: attempt to index field 'originalFaction' (a nil value)
[08:23:24][904][C]:-1(global error) ai/ai.lua:0: ai/cost.lua:0: attempt to index field 'originalFaction' (a nil value)

I'm sure I have solved this before, but I can't remember what I done to fix the problem. :(

Hi Tim & Szymon,

Might I suggest that you contact these 2 active modders, if you are still in need of progressing CTGW further, these guys at least know a bit about working with Lua scripts.(Sabratha) (DanielHerr)

All the best, Kirk.

Yes, expiriencing the same crash in the 1917 and 1918 scenarios, though not in 1914.

When you guys do your mods: Can you fix the (land) hex to a (sea-water) in the 1915-1916 and 1917 scenarios that will allow the Norway convoys to move, otherwise they are caged-in by a port and land hex next to one another (somebody screwed up).

Good catch and I would gladly help you, but editing the map is one thing that is not possible, the map files are non-editable.

However, port locations are a different matter, as they are in a separate file. I understand its Trondheim? Well, the only thing that can be done is remove the port completely.

Having said that, I'd rather have an editable map file so I could fix all these issues.

Hi Bob,

The main designer and AI programmer left the game 1-2 months after the initial release in 2012 and at that time the game was far from finished and in the middle of needing still quite some patching.

Just two of us were left on this project and we have been fighting an uphill battle the last 3 years porting, patching and updating as good as we could, luckily with some volunteer help from Kirk and others. For which we are and remain very grateful!

Furthermore there were some severe legal issues, that for years dragged on and that only a few weeks ago we finally got all sorted.

Also sales did not really peaked as expected, so in an economic sense we should have walked away years ago.

But we did and do not. We understand our customers don`t want to hear excuses, but solutions and we are working on them as best as we can.

On a side note the fact that you started a shouting campaign on all forums, did not help us much outside demotivating and hurting us even more in dire straits...

I know you as a passionate fan and you like the game, rightly so, as despite all the set-backs, it is still a good game.

Could have been even better for sure, but at the current situation, it is a small miracle the game was done and a non-profit project for us for quite a few years now.

We will keep on supporting as we don`t want you all to be let down.

We are working on a combined patch that include all hotfixes and some more fixes.

Cheers,

Tim
The above quote is from the Steam CTGW forum (yesterday). Indicating another patch is in the works. Who knows what is in it? I Highlighted the last line. Have you inquired to LZ about having access to programing editing files? If they are not going to use them, why not release them?

Well, first and foremost I'm very glad to hear that we heard from the dev team.
I do know how tough the game industry can be on its own people (worked professionally for game development and testing for a short time myself). I do unterstand how it can be at times and that some minor issues will not be fixed because of time, team or financial constraints.

Still, having said that a game crashing AI bug is a big issue and I think at least that one could use a fix. Where I worked, we gave game crashes the top priority over any other fixes.

So, I'd be willing to give a hand if possible, plus develop my mod further, but I'm not even going to start working on later war scenarios without the naval bug getting fixed first.

I'd also love to get if not a map editor, than at least a script that would change the "originalHexOwner" parameter. I relaly could do wonders as far as gameplay and new factions go if I had such a script.

We have a look at this one, it is an AI related bug. We need a few more working days to build a first test patch. I keep you updated.

We are willing to offer the whole engine and open all scripts, if someone or a small team wants to create a new game with it that fits the Commander series.

If you are interested just drop me an email.

After taking to Kirk it seems that problem only occurs in modded version of the game. We plan to release AI files for the community so that possible future problems could be solved by modders too
