Bad weather and SMG infantery

Post by Ursulet »

I'M playing stalingrad docks and just had my 4* 8strengh grenadiere with a 5attack bonus from heroes got oneshot by a smg infantery. And it was back up by a 12strengh stug3, how unlucky is it?

Doesnt matter much, i will replace it with a tiger in 43 as soon as i get a new se unit. And at the same times my 4* 10 strengh Se panzer grenadiere with a +3defensive hero and no arty back up was left untouched, no smg would ever attack it.

Makes it clear, like many stated it here before, that for infantery nothing is better than a defensive hero.

SMG infantry can be real trouble as they are quite destructive and have good CD. However, they have spotting 1 so don't know if you have artillery backing the unit they are facing. This is good if you have, as they think they can get you and then get blasted before they attack, but not so good if you haven't. They probably noticed the3defence hero on the unit they were facing.

Also, in rain, initiative is set to 1 so all your experience and initiative heroes don't help. That makes a big difference to your experienced troops, as they lose the ability to kill off the enemy before they get their attack on you.

I agree +3 defence hero is good generally, but especially for rough terrain, and with my play style, +3defence is better than 3 attack for most units.

You end up taking a lot of damage during rain turns for the following reasons:

1) As was so well said above, you take a lot more damage during rain due to the removal of initiative.

2) The AI can't see your defensive artillery, so it will actually attack thinking its losses will be low. It will take tons of damage, but it will often also deal more damage than with its usual strategy of sitting around waiting to die. For similar reasons, the SMG infantry's inability to see past the end of its nose makes it behave more aggressively which can actually make them more dangerous overall even if it often ends up killing itself attacking artillery supported units.

3) Defensive artillery fire will be ineffective.

So to answer your questions, no, your story is not surprising at all.
