The game is great, don't get me wrong! Although the iPad version badly needs the combat details screen to show the terrain effects, etc. Yet, Operation Overlord seems to be just a disaster! There is no beach defense at all during the campaign? Really? A couple of units? And then an insane amount of planes that just kill everything? Then boats near the shore just pummel anything that gets near. Is this even winnable for a decisive?
Now, I'm sure I am wrong and just frustrated, but it does seems that the scenario is a bit historically messed up to be honest. Besides that, how does one even attempt to beat this scenario?
Err... Operation Overlord kind of sucks. :/

This is exactly what happened.Emoni wrote: And then an insane amount of planes that just kill everything?
I recall that over 100 boats were assembled to assist in D-Day.Emoni wrote:Then boats near the shore just pummel anything that gets near.
Unfortunately for you,history wasn't very nice to the Germans in 1944.
But I'm a bit worried for your core if you ended up there (unless you started in 1943) - usually it is best to wipe out the UK in 1940!
Have you checked out the AAR section? I'm sure someone will have a replay or something posted.

From what I remember, the mission is pretty difficult on the first try. The key is withdrawing, very far. You´ve got plenty of time. You´ve got to exploit the AI weakness at advancing beyond the initial staging area. If you succeeded in defeating the main force, you can advance again.
As far as the Luftwaffe is concerned, this was the frist scenario during which I did not try to gain air superiority. Attack isolated enemy planes, but as soon as the allied fighters discover you, your planes will be toast.

Thanks for the replies, I will check the AAR section (what does this stand for by the way?), and also try pulling back far with lots of anti aircraft protection.

AAR = After Action Report.
Re: Err... Operation Overlord kind of sucks. :/
Thanks. Found that part of the forum.
I tried following the advice to pull back, and I don't know how I managed it, but I pulled off a decisive victory on the very last turn, the war ended in a stalemate and peace treaty. Wow, took me almost a year to the day to get through the campaign. Whew...
What a game. (Kind of wish there were some historical videos thrown in the mix though!)

Now that you've mastered Overlord you can give Bagration a try.
