KEY Shortcuts and usability

Post by TopoSolitario »

Playing on PC I've found the Key Shortcuts are not nice to use and I've some advice for it:
  • Using return for procceed is wrong for both lefties and righties: Return Key (only the main return, not numpad) is far right at the keyboard, so, it is unnatural to work with it if you're using your mouse with the right hand, you have to release the mouse and go there... or unnaturally move the ASDW hand to there to procced instead of keeping the ASDW map scroll
  • Using Click to Roll the dice and Click again to accept the result is weird too in combination with return: for even the simpliest activation, you have to follow this steps: Drag the gun to the target, Go back to the dice and click, look the result, click anywhere, go back to procced (far right from the dice) and click or press return (see previous isssue). You do that on every single combat turn... different keys or clicks just to go forward in the firing action, in different buttons pretty far one from another, that's not usable at all
The best solution (UI usability is part of my job) is using the spacebar to go forward on the expected action from the user... Spacebar is great as works both for righties and lefties. The idea is to be able to use spacebar to:
  • Roll the dice when you have to
  • Accept the dice result when you have to
  • Proceed when you have to
There is no situation where you have to choose between that three actions... mouse hand is happy and free and you can keep your fingers on map moving keys... I see that pretty basic.

Thank you in advance for giving it a thought.

Yeah got to echo your suggestion, one of my major gripes with gaming is poor choice with hotkeys or the complete lack to rebind keys to your own personal liking.
A lefty and righty will by there very mechanical nature want a different layout, with a game like this where only a few keys are needed anyway i dont see an issue whatsoever to not let the user make the choice on his/her preferred setup?
If there is a way with any game to reduce the clicking i believe it should be implemented also.

Hi TopoSolitario, Major.Pain,
surely the game could introduce more shortcuts.
We have this improvement in our to-do list.

The SPACE button is currently used to roll the die, so it could be a good idea to use it as a 'continue' button as you suggested.
