More Heroes 2.0
Version 2.0
* Added 4 pictures for the soviet heroes (Thanks to phcas, I took the idea from his files).
* The cheat files for fast unlocking heroes are now in a separated zip. I think this will help with backups.
Version 1.2
* Updated for Soviet Corps aka 1.25
Version 1.1
* Reverted to original game names. Left only the new images of heroes.
* Added optional cheat rules. The heroes unlock earlier so by the time you have a Knight's Cross you should have too 3 heroes.
https://mega.nz/folder/fMQBzYoK#ptjQNm6ueTdl70F2OY_e3w
Unzip the folder inside your MODS folder.
If you want the cheat rules enabled, copy the content of the cheat folder outside with the rest of the mod files.
Then enable the mod with GME tool.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 290 pictures added to the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope there's no copyright problems...i used google images to search wehrmacht and luftwaffe portraits.
Most sites were:
http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de/
wehrmacht-awards.com / pinterest.com / forosegundaguerra.com / militaria-archive.com / taringa.net / histomil.com / feldgrau.net / akpool.de / commons.wikimedia.org / pixpast.com / warrelics.eu
and a lot more...

Re: Not so random heroes
Hey maybe the guys are twins that was separated at birth and risen in different families ... you never know.
Re: Not so random heroes
There are 50 random German (ground unit) hero portraits in the game. Every time a unit is given a new hero the game picks one of these randomly, so quite easily there is a 1 in 50 chance to get the same portrait again every time you get a new hero. If you are playing a long campaign like the Grand Campaign and you get lots of heroes chances are high that several will be duplicated. In other words, the longer you play a campaign the higher the chance that you will end up having more and more of these clone troopers in your army. If I remember well in the earlier versions of Panzer Corps this number was even lower, somewhere like 26 or something.
Luckily it is quite easy to add more hero portraits to the game if you want more variation and less chance for duplication. You just have to find some decent contemporary portraits, resize them to match those images in the "\Panzer Corps\UI\heroes" folder and then add a reference to them in the "\Panzer Corps\Data\heroes.pzdat" file and that's it.
EDIT: Ah, I just realized you know how to do it, but anyway... I think I understand your point now, there really could be a formula which makes sure that in the same game the same portrait is not used two times until there are other unused portraits left. But, even then, after having 50 heroes the duplication would start, anyway...
And actually it does not take a long time to add a lot more names to the database, you just have to open the heroes.pzdat file and write in as many surenames and first names as you wish.

Re: Not so random heroes
Yeah, my idea is to know if something can be done while i think if making like 100 pictures would worth the try. Kind of easy but since the max core is near 50-60 that makes like 200 different heroes, maybe more. And that without counting possible losses but this is not a problem since i tend to use Reform.
If we could edit such things like as you said, making checks for used heroes then others things could be done too like editing stats etc. I know the code must be hardcoded, but...it kills the immersion having twins
u know

Re: Not so random heroes
McGuba, thanks for the reminder on changing heroes, I have had faceless heroes in my private mod for a while, and you have reminded me it's easy to check and correct it.
Danijocker90, while I understand your annoyance, if you have regimental sized units, that's about 2,000 people in each unit, so some duplication of the more common names is quite likely. At one school I attended I was in a class of 30 to 35, which included seven people called Simon Jones, and two of these also had the same middle name!

Re: Not so random heroes
Yeah, but even then there would be duplications, occasionally. It is all up to the dice rolls. In some games you would be fine, but in most ones you would have at least a few images used twice in your army if having 150 portraits and 50 core units. However, obviously the more images you have the less clones you would get. Which hopefully means less annoyance.danijocker90 wrote:Yeah, my idea is to know if something can be done while i think if making like 100 pictures would worth the try. Also, I do not know if there is a built in upper limit, but eventually there might be. It depends on how the game calculates the randomness.
Yes, I fully agree, for some reason in most of my test games in Battlefield: Europe I had multiple Steffen Hoffmanns and other such silly names and images multiplied. It is only one scenario, but a long one and with a large "core", hence the duplications. So it is annoying at times.danijocker90 wrote:If we could edit such things like as you said, making checks for used heroes then others things could be done too like editing stats etc. I know the code must be hardcoded, but...it kills the immersion having twinsu know
Since the randomness is indeed hard coded, the only thing we can do is to increase the number of portraits and names. The latter is quite easy: a good start would be to check a database of historical officers, like the names of the U-boat commanders:
http://uboat.net/men/commanders/index.html
Then you just have to add these to the heroes.pzdat file and the game will mix-and-match them randomly, creating a near infinitive pool of German names popular during WW2.
But adding lots of new images matching the quality (size, relative size, sharpness, contrast and detail, etc.) of the vanilla ones may be a bit time consuming. I know how it is, as I did add a number of new random heroes to the Minor Axis nations in my mod.
So maybe we could share the workload and post them here. If everyone makes just a dozen or so images and posts them here eventually we would have a hundred or more and then everyone could use them freely.

Re: Not so random heroes
I never heard of "Vester" as a German name. I know it listed among possible german names but it must be EXTREME rare if used at all.

Re: More Heroes
Your list looks good but some nitpicking is due.danijocker90 wrote:I have cleaned a bit more the names and the surnames (hope you like it now Tarrak)
"Inge" is a female name. "Ingo" is a male one that sounds similar.
"Maria" is used in 99.9% cases as a female name as well, tho i heard of a few cases using Maria at least as a second name for a man. There is a German comedian/actor called Markus Maria Profitlich for example. Such cases are very very rare tho so i would rather remove Maria from the list.
"Jurgen" on your list is actually spelled "Jürgen" with the umlaut.
Now a few remarks to the surnames tho as surnames tend to be sometimes spelled totally strange and almost everything goes there spelling wise it's really nitpicking at a very high level. "Aleshite" doesn't really sound german to me. The "sh" letters combo is quite uncommon in German. We tend to use "sch" instead. "Shriver" sounds strange for the same reasons. "Koenig" and "Koenigsman" can be spelled this way but the common version is "König" and "Königsman". Finally "Greenwald" while again certainly possible spelled that way would sound a lot more German as "Grünwald". Grün means green in German.

General Note -- After testing the mod i can say that no matters how many pictures we put in the folder, they appear even more if something. Anyway...the pictures are cool, uh?
I found something interesting in the heroes file, the Class parameter. So i can choose the Panzer Crew pictures to only appear if the unit is a vehicle, for example...
Changed
Inge -> Ingo
Maria -> Mario
Jurgen -> Jürgen
Greenwald & Grünewald --> Grünwald
Koenig & Koenigsman --> König / Königsman
Removed --> Aleshite / Shriver / Greenberg / Fashingbauer

For example Klaus Maria BrandauerTarrak wrote: There is a German comedian/actor called Markus Maria Profitlich for example. Such cases are very very rare tho so i would rather remove Maria from the list.
Re: More Heroes
Yeah i already gave an example but as far i know Maria as male name is only used as second name. I have yet to see it being used as first name.Magic1111 wrote:For example Klaus Maria BrandauerTarrak wrote: There is a German comedian/actor called Markus Maria Profitlich for example. Re: More Heroes
German Names and Surnames -- Done (Thanks Tarrak
)
200 Ground Heroes -- Done
100 Air Heroes -- Done
WIP -- Class Heroes
With the class heroes I mean that, for example, a hero with panzer crew uniform will only be given to a panzer unit instead of a infantry unit. These are gonna be few heroes that will give a more immersive feeling to the unit.

Re: More Heroes
* 1st version released *
Up to 290 pictures.
Since the week is near to his end and I'm back to studies I only added near 5 class heroes for type (20 for panzers). If the idea works i can try to add more in the future. Not was easy to find good pictures of crew members.

Re: More Heroes
Ah, this is excellent!
This would add a lot more variation I guess. I think I will add it to a later version of the Battlefield: Europe mod, with credits to, you if that's all right.

Re: More Heroes
That would be nice.
It adds variety yes. Not removes duplications but shows much better.
If only i had more free time to add lots more of pics
