Title pretty much says it. I run my computer as a plain ol' user and just supply the admin password as needed.Loving the game, got about 100 hours into it according to Steam, however after the update and a subsequent attempt at launching (via steam library), I was prompted with a request to supply an admin password to launch the game ( per the Slitherine game menu ). Launching via the Order of battle executable produced the same results. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same results. When I relented and supplied a password, I got the familiar desktop GUI with its various options including launching the game. Upon doing this i was then presented with a window with the option of playing the core game or the Battle of Britian mod. Selecting either produces a little error window with the following: CRC check failed. Please re-install the game. OK. After this i went into the steam app and there is an installation check option, which i ran and it told me 2 files had errors and would be re-acquired. Aaaaaaand same game launch story. Finally I launched Steam as Administrator and launched the game and Voila!! it all works.
1. I will not run Steam as Admin so i can play a game, nor will I run any game as admin. The only applicaion/utility/software package I will run as admin are system management/diagnostic ones. Period. Order of battle was running fine and I was a completely happy and satisfied customer, looking forward to giving you more money in the future.
2. This is more of an aside but... all my saved games are unavailable to me now because the game thinks I am now a different user. Give up my 100 hours of play? Not.
Yall got a good thing here, its awesome, I want to play it but since the update, I cannot for the 2 reasons stated above.
Please help me here
Thanks in advance
After Update, game only runs when Steam is launched as Admin

Hi spinagus,
You can be assured we wouldn't expect you to need admin privileges to play the game... I'm sure we can sort this out.
What version of windows are you using? Presumably the user prompt appears as soon as you run the exe?
Re: saved games. Are your savegames still not visible if you load the original game (not the mod)?

Re: After Update, game only runs when Steam is launched as A
Hi Myrddraal
I am running Win 8.1 64 bit. I launch the game from the shortcut created by the installation process (steam download, install). It starts steam which asks me to login then instead of the game starting I get the prompt for the local admin password.
I posted the above from memory of events on patch day and I stated the game.exe does the same thing. However with your question I re-checked and the OoB pacific.exe will dutifully start the game and everything is roses (i can see my games and all is good, even after downloading the mod as well) -- as long as steam is running. If steam is not running the process barfs and I get the same CRC error message.
So.. manually start steam, then manually launch OoB pacific.exe from my local installation directory and I am in business.
IF I try and launch the game from my steam library it calls the autorun.exe in the OoB installation directory and I get the admin prompt thing.
In the the app that is prompting a user for the admin password there is a little "details" button. It will display the full path to the file that is the source of it being launched. In this case its autorun.exe.
Take that file out of the loop and everything works.

Re: After Update, game only runs when Steam is launched as A
I am using Windows 10 64-bit and also get this "CRC check failed. Please reinstall the game" error message. I have two user accounts. Both are set as admin accounts, but one is a newly created account that I created after installing the game. I get this error when trying to play on this new account.
I also did the same as spinagus, verified the integrity of the game install with Steam. It found seven bad files and reinstalled them. But, I still get the same CRC check failed error. I even completely uninstalled the game through Steam, and reinstalled it. I still get the same error.
When I switch to my original account, the one I installed Windows 10 with, and the account I originally installed the game with, the game runs fine.
Very strange.

Re: After Update, game only runs when Steam is launched as A
I noticed after updating via steam that it requires admin rights to play, for me not issue as I am the only user so have it set as admin always.

Hi All,
Thanks for your information on this issue. It's meant that we've been able to track this down to an out of the way setting in a 3rd party system that was requiring Admin access for the game launcher.
We are going to be issuing Patch 1.9.4 for Order of Battle very soon and this should resolve the issue
Thanks!
