Newbie question
I've just started playing Panzer Corps, and am currently going through the tutorial scenarios. I've also been looking through this forum and have found very useful information. However, there is one question I have to which I have not been able to find the answer.
There are numerous references in the forum to "SE units", but I have not been able to find any definition of what a "SE unit" is or how it differs from a "Non-SE unit". Can someone please help me with this?
TIA

Re: Newbie question
SE units are special units that can be awarded to you during a campaign. There is a certain limit on SE units you can have that expands during the campaigns and it differ from campaign to campaign. As long you haven't reached the maximal limit on SE units there is a random chance at the begin of a scenario to get one. Which one you get from the available units is random. SE units got different look, a camouflage, and get +1 attack compared to it's normal counterparts. Greatest advantage of SE units is they don't count towards the maximum of units allowed to be deployed in a scenario. For example if the scenario allows you to deploay 20 units you can deploy 20 normal units and additionally all the SE units you have.
In the Tutorial campaign there are no SE units available so no wonder you haven't seen them yet.

Re: Newbie question
SE units are Elite units. These are awarded to you at different intervals. they are also deploy-able 'free', meaning they do not take a core deploy slot when deploying. So if you are able to deploy 12 units in a scenario and you ave 2 SE units, you can actually have 14 units deployed.
I'm sure I am missing some points but this is a basic description. They can be upgraded but the only SE unit types are Infantry, Armor and Air, IIRC.

Many thanks for the informative replies; very much appreciated. These SE units sound awesome, and I look forwarded to using them as I progress through the game.

Re: Newbie question
Another slight added advantage to the SE units is that they also get +1 ammo. Normally not a very big deal IMO, with the exception of SE Grenadiers. They will have 6 ammo vs 5 ammo for the standard Grenadier unit. That's a plus in scenarios where you use infantry a lot.
One other thing about the SE units. If you get one you don't want - say, an infantry unit instead of a tank, you can "sell" the unit & hope for a better one next time around. Good luck - hope you enjoy the game.

Re: Newbie question
Telling that nobody here ventured to say what the 'S' in 'SE' stands for. 'Special' perhaps? But then that would be "Special, Elite" which is redundant as elite things are by definition also special.

I believe that one of the devs or moderators confirmed this a while ago. But ultimately I don't think it is worth caring about. I still consider them Waffen-SSproline wrote:Telling that nobody here ventured to say what the 'S' in 'SE' stands for. 'Special' perhaps? Is there a performance based enhancer? Say if one gets a Major Victory in very quick time, is it more likely to happen than if one prevails on the very last turn?Tarrak wrote:there is a random chance at the begin of a scenario to get one.

Re: Newbie question
Way back in the day (1995 or so) I played a lot of Panzer General. I seem to recall that on occasion, you'd be awarded a free "prototype" unit. This would be a unit which would be soon coming out - you'd just get one a few months early. You wouldn't see extremes - for example, you wouldn't get a Tiger II in 1942 or something. Anyway, I'm guessing that recreating this sort of experience was part of the reason the current game creators added the SE units to PC. I also don't believe - but am less sure - that this was limited to tanks or infantry as currently is the case with Panzer Corps. I'd welcome a few newer categories for SE units - anti-tank & artillery especially.
I almost want to try to fire up my old computer & play a round of Panzer General to find out if that was really the case.

Ahh the Germans have the tanks, but the Americans have the Kingtiger of infantry. Trust me the ultimate infantry experiece is Rangers. Move fast and annihilate all that stands before them. (Dont even bother with US engineers though. Good for mine clearing only)
