2 Extra Range Artillery Opinions Wanted

Post by Baku42 »

I got a 2 extra range German artilley unit about a third in to Afrika Korps. From the more seasoned experts than I, which is the best way to use this? Im thinking Wurfrahmen halftrack but Im a newbie

I'd use that on the high damage output nebelwerfer series. And I don't just mean the self-propelled one, but the towed ones in that series that come after it too. Those ones are extremely high damage output balanced by the fact that with their range of 2 and lack of self-propulsion it is hard to get them into the action safely while on offense. In your case, with a range of 4 that's going to be a piece of cake, and you'll be demolishing soft artillery units that are well behind the front line have fun!

A later option would be the rail gun- it has extra range and power balanced by the fact it can't go everywhere. Give it an extra 2 range and it can hit everywhere anyways! It would still have crappy rate of fire, but over strength helps with that.

The other plus with upgrading nebelwerfers is that they fire at 100% Rate of Fire and most other high damage artillery (even 150) has a lower RoF, so you get excellent hitting power. Hope for a Move hero to make it even more devastating!

I like one towed artillery with long range to suppress aa followed by stuka attack to cripple or kill the aa. This opens the door for bringing in the rest of your luftflotte without fear of aa fire. Can also be used for counterbattery for to suppress enemy artillery as you are advancing.

Sure, but why use towed for that? A 30 cm Nblwf 43 does a whopping 30 damage to soft, and with +2 range can do that from a distance of 4. Since it has a RoF of 10, it is much better suited to suppressing AA and artillery than the towed guns, which mostly have reduced RoF. What the towed guns are useful for is their high hard attack, which they need for suppressing tanks. You don't need a range of 4 to do that.

Hmm.. good point proline. I guess the only downside is that the Nblf have lower ammo. Also, unless you can kill the AA outright with the Arty, then you will still need a tactical bomber to finish it off (maybe a fighter will do)

Actually I guess technically the 30 cm Nblwf 43 is towed, but we were talking about the big gun series.
