Is there a way to set a unit to move or shoot. For example I have changed the range on AT guns to 1 (can attack adjacent hexes without retaliation) but I think this makes them too powerful if they can move a hex then attack with impunity. I will try setting their movement to 0 and see if this means they can only move when mounted on a transport (opel blitz etc.) which will mean they're vulnerable when moving. Considering doing it with arty too as the move and shoot mechanic is unrealistic. HOWEVER there is a HUGE flaw, most of the early game AI AT and arty have no transport option which renders them immobile. A possible solution could be just to enable them to have transports.
Your thoughts?

Settings AT guns range to 1 is strange. As you wrote it means they can shot without impunity which is just strange considering they are direct fire, close to medium range weapons. Everything else is imho doctoring around on the symptoms but hey it's your game so whatever floats your boat. The main problem is if you change the movement to 0 all the towed AT and Artillery without transports can't move and there is a lot of them in the scenarios. You will have to manually edit all the scenarios and give them transports. This is a lot of work and i am not even sure if you can change the all the scenarios or if they are encrypted. Changing the behavior to be not able to shot after moving is not possible in the game afaik. And all the self propelled artillery and AT is causing another major headache in your system.

Not encrypted. They can be changed.Tarrak wrote: i am not even sure if you can change the all the scenarios or if they are encrypted.

Re: AT and Arty modification
A month or so back, someone posted a list of the controls in the game rules file. I'm pretty sure that it included a switch to allow or forbid move and fire in the same turn. The problem there is that it would affect everything, not just the AT units.
I can think of two options (both untried so use with care):
- allow only the more powerful AT guns 1 range, but give them 0 move.
- create a switch so your AT guns have 0 range and 1 move or 1 range and 0 move.
So you have normal close defence role ideally suited to smaller lighter guns that are relatively easy to relocate and a more carefully positioned defensive role for the heavier guns that can't be manhandled and have a muzzle flash that marks their position all too clearly.

I mostly agree but there are exceptions. The jagdTiger could outrange pretty much anything from that time period but had a low attack rate from it's two-part charge and it had some defensive weaknesses as well such as relatively weak side armor. Had it come out in time to make a difference, it would have been most effective on offense from a long range away when properly supported to stop the enemy from getting in close. Instead, we get a unit with a weaker gun than the Elefant, JagdPanther, or Tiger II that requires little support and does best if you stick it in clear terrain and let the enemy attack it (so that it gets the AT defense bonus, and it has plenty of defense to easily survive). It probably should have got a bigger gun and lower ROF. Definitely would be a good case of an AT that deserves a range of 1 though.Tarrak wrote:Settings AT guns range to 1 is strange.
