Changing gamerules.pzdat questions

Post by Iscaran »

I am currently playing againg through the GC and realized that I dont like the way the new soft cap rules work. Though I generally like this soft cap concept, I wanted to try some settings on my own to get a better "feeling" of the game for me.

Can somebody explain me what the following soft cap values mean ?
Also can somebody tell me if the effects of changes take place "immediately" when loading a save or from which step will changes take over...playing again through 39-44 before noticing any big change in the way soft cap works would be tedious.

But I think I can just maybe load GC44 campaign with my old "core" from 43 and the changed rules would apply ?

UseSoftCap 1
NormalPrestige 400
MaxPrestige 800
MinKoff 20

"UseSoftCap" is used to turn the prestige cap on and off. 1 means its on, 0 means its off.

"NormalPrestige" defines the bottom average price of all deployed units in a scenario(SE units do not count) at which the cap start to take effect and your prestige starts to be reduced.

"MaxPrestige" defines the average price of all deployed units in a scenario(SE units do not count) at which the cap reaches it's maximum.

"MinKoff" defines the minimal amount of prestige in % you will get when your average unit price reached the value defined in "MaxPrestige"

So much to the theory at least but keep in mind there was a bug in the calculation of the prestige soft cap, which makes it hit harder then intended (see here for details). As far i know this never got fixed.

As of when the settings take effect i am not entirely sure but starting a new year of GC should be enough. Possibly even restarting a new scenario could work but i wouldn't bet on it.

Thank you Tarrak !

So I think what I should try is to set the MinKoff to ~50% maybe....as I understand your explanation this should "raise" the effectively gained prestige when over the max value to a higher value WITHOUT changing with the average values themselves.

So that could be an interesting way of tinkering to "ease" prestige troubles one encounters in GC44 and 45 onwards.

I'll try changing that value to 50 and restart the GC44 and see if I still will have prestige left at the end of it.

If you want to play with restricted prestige, you can do so with a more complete understanding of what is going on and why as follows. First switch off the soft cap, and then use the slider to drop the prestige earned by (for example) 10% each time you start a new Grand Campaign, or for every two SE units you have, or whatever looks about right.

Then if you overdo or underdo the capping, you simply change the difficulty between scenarios.
