AI is not super hot but not the worst I've seen. There have been instances of passive ork units waiting to be killed. But there have been instances of the greenskins responding to my moves fairly aggressively. Example: I was holding a northern bridge. I wanted to relieve some pressure so I swung around the ass end of the ork column from the south and started popping mobz from behind. Ork armor diverted and started attacking. Liked that.
They also pursued very aggressively in the mission where I was trying to fall back on my hive.
There is a real benefit in understanding what all the stats mean. Some one posted in the forum and this info would have been nice to have in the manual. It helps in knowing which unit is best for the task at hand. I used to play the tabletop game, but I was never IG
I have absolutely no issue with the experience mechanics. Preserving my favorite units becomes that much more important if I don't want to see them reduced by an influx of green replacements. I have a Salamander Scout platoon with seven skulls and holy s--t, do those autocannons and bolters chew up infantry. It's work to build experience, but the added, what, 35% accuracy. It was worth it.
Arty is king. A pair of experienced Basilisk batteries soften up an ork unit very nicely before I move in my PBI or my Punisher platoon.
You've captured the flavor of the setting. Ork waves keep coming, their accuracy sucks but there are so many per unit, they're still lethal. I love the sound effects and animations. The thwack of ratling head shots all the way to earthshaker cannons. I only hope I get more Titans (just finished Abnetts Titanicus).
Yeah, there's room for improvement. I'd love to see commissars. I've seen the AI lapse..especially in the mission where I'm crossing the Diablo mountains.... (still wouldn't rate it as poorly as other games I've played). But as a fan of the 40k setting who's seen so many half-assed applications of the franchise, I do rate this as a great game. If anyone would like to try cross platform multi (with the understanding you'll likely whoop my ass the first few times), try my ID with invite or PM.
