Banzai charges any good?

Post by Sabratha »

Is it just me, or is the banzai charge specialisation a shmuck bait?

I've treied using it on a variety of enemy units, including ones that were cut off, out of msupply, in cloear terrain etc. In each and every case the enemy delt me quitew some damage, while I did nothing. Entirely not the results taht the pre-battle assessment points would have shown.

What is the proper way to use Banzai charges? Are these goodd for anythign at all in this game?

Banzai charge is a roll of the dice. The effect of the aatack us highly randomised, you could get lucky and deal disproportionate damage, or get unlucky and get hammered.

It's not supposed to be a super weapon, but a risky manoeuvre. Personally I only use it in two circumstances: when my units are in a perilous position and like to be taken out during the AI turn, or when under pressure to take objectives quickly, and there's no more suitable unit available to break through enemy strong points.

I've heard some people on the forum advocating the use of banzai charge to break through entrenched units defending rivers, but personally I think engineers do a better job of that.

Still, have yet to see a suecessfull banzai charge. Each time leads to unsatisfying result, never forced the opponent to retreat, each time feels like a regular attack would have been a better option.
