Artillery...Defensive Fire Support?

Post by b52pilot1 »

It seems like artillery should have the ability to provide Defensive Fire Support like AT and AA units. And maybe AT should have Outflanking Support capability, and not Defensive Fire Support? It just seem like AT units fire their weapons and the shells travel level along the surface of the ground...right through the space occupied the unit that is receiving Def Fire Support; it just doesn't seem right. While Artillery would lob shells over (not directly through at ground level) the space occupied by the unit that is receiving Def Fire Support.

Am I the only one that thinks the game mechanics for AT and Arty are backwards when it comes to Defensive Fire Support and Outflanking Support in this regard?

The AT fire support is a vast improvement over Panzer Corp. The AT guns were almost useless in PC because you could rarely get them into position to fire. In OOB they are a useful unit and you have to think tactically and place them correctly.

I am glad that Artillery cannot do defensive fire missions. The artillery is too powerful now. A couple of Artillery units can lob shells into your units all day and all you can do is take it. And they are hard to get at to neutralize.

Just my opinion. Not saying your opinion is incorrect

I think of AT support working like this: some guns have been moved forward to the infantry unit (designed for effect).

I advocated for similar art support during beta, but I think the support should be restricted to one support action pr turn.
I believe it takes more time to re-adjust art fire than AT fire.

Yolo and Erik,

You both make very good points and I can see where the current structure for AT and Arty is beneficial. My opinions probably stems from the PanzerCorps method for Artillery support and it just something I am very familiar with!

Thank you for your replies and your perspective on this.
