How are these going in Open competitions of late ?

Unprotected bow are better than they used to be, but still pretty poor. They can be outshot by skirmishers.

They are doing quite well now.

Elephants are very dangerous and the protected bow is only a single minus in melee, unless something heavily armoured hits it, or pikes. You can shoot pikes down and heavily armoured beats most things anyway, except elephants which you can have lots of

Much better than they were and elephant armies are having a big revival. various Elephant armies have placed well in recent UK competitions

Yes I learnt that very quickly in a ' Starter Army ' comp, always use the ' Protected ' version.

Looking for a good ' Protected ' 15mm classical Indian figure as mine look very ' Unprotected '.

The light to medium brown muscled cuirass and linen hauberk that my protected Classical Indians are wearing could (to the untrained eye) be mistaken for guys who have taken their shirts off and are running around with just skirts on...

Yes the protected are probably the way to go as they can see off skirmishers. I think the unprotected guys might need to be three deep to avoid being shot down. Which makes them more expensive per frontage.

They were top of the table before the last game at Britcon. But suffered badly to chinese crossbows with armoured foot. As did most people that met Graham's Ch'in army.

So perhaps it was Graham that did for the Indians rather than Indian short comings

ERM list an 'armoured archer' in their Indian range, but no picture provided (http://shop.eastridingminiatures.co.uk/ ... s-39-c.asp), and Outpost have armoured archers in their Hindu and Tamil range (see http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk ... allery.htm) that might be ok, but it looks like these are provided as a random selection so you may get some unarmoured ones in the packs.
