With windows 10 coming up are slitherine games compatible with it, more specifically towards battle academy and order of battle? thanks.

all my games work with it, tested so far, some straight out of install and patched, others need to be run in compatibility mode as admin, but that was also true for windows 8.1 / 8 and win 7 tbh

AFAIK Microsoft said that nearly everything running on 8 will run fine on 10.

But if you look at my signature you will realise that I'm not the most up-to-date

Updated from win8.1 to win10. Smoothest update in MS history.
The few games I've tested are OK.

BUT, now I can no longer open Word/Excel files. I had office365pro installed (company version available to employees). Uninstalled and reinstalled office2007, but no luck. Win10 screwed up something on my PC.
Kind of regret being an early win10 adopter and wish I kept the awful win8

Personally I may install Win7 from scratch. That was/is a nice OS.

You can always do a clean installation of Windows 10.
I usually never do updates from version x to version y. Nothing like a clean installation.

must agree, clean is always better, only way for a free key is a upgrade mind you, so you still need to do it first,

then once it's done you don't need a key no more as it takes a snapshot of your system hardware and when you reinstall after a format and reinstall windows 10, just press next when it asks for a key, and as soon as it's installed just activate it and it checks for the same hardware and your done, all clean and fresh

On a retail copy (non OEM) the license permits you to install Windows regardless of your hardware.
Will this Windows 10 upgrade will turn the retail copies into OEM licences?

MS says yes that it will transfers the rights, but then how to proceed?
Will the snapshot image take in consideration that we have upgraded from a retail copy and that we can install in a different hardware?

not sure but would think not, but would need more info on it tbh, will have a look and see what i can find out, but from what i see so far, too much of a hardware change means a new lic atm...

then again you can always in the first years put back on the original lic and take up the free upgrade offer,and re do it all again, it's only for a year mind you

I'm interested in keeping Windows 7 alive for testing, so the best move is for me to buy a retail Windows 10 license.
I feel MS has done a poor job on explaining how the upgrade would work.

for the same price on cheaper tbh wouldn't it be better to just get another drive?

install / upgrade with the free offer for now, but first clone the hard drive (win 7) onto a new driver then you have both?

win 10 for free, and win 7 on a new drive, so 2 seconds to change bios boot order and your sorted, or if a modern board hot swap them?

And the issue remains, I might change the computer hardware...

To meet the terms of the free Windows 10 you must upgrade from a qualifying system, Once you have upgraded you do not need a product key, nor do you need a key when upgrading from a qualifying system (OS). Once you have upgraded at least once you are free to do clean installs, at some future point Microsoft will be providing ISO, for this purpose (already posted links)

Yep Zakblood, to our knowledge when you upgrade from 7/8 to 10, then you lose the key for your Win 7/8, so the copy of Win 7/8 would then not be valid.
