Spoiler Alert: This thread deals with tactics learned through experience. If you prefer to learn these tactics through game play, then don't read any further. If you would like to learn from other's experience, then read on.
Name of Tactic: "Intel-Training"
How it's done: ARVN training does not require constant Green Beret (GB) presence. It only requires GB action for the turn. Once a GB performs training for a turn, you can airlift the GB to a spot and perform a recon. Next turn, you can lift the GB back to the base and continue the training. If you're willing to spare additional choppers, you can recon multiple locations. All without losing any training time. And if conditions warrant, you can skip a training turn and move the GB unit (or sweep for mines). Then pick up training next turn; you don't lose time already spent training.
Benefit: Recon/Intel is a critical part of winning. Leaving GB idle for three turns while training ARVN results in wasted intel opportunities. You don't have to choose between training and recon; you really can have your cake and eat it too!

Sneaky find

Re: Command and Staff College
yes i thought so as well commander
Re: Command and Staff College
That's an exploit, but not so gamey as it costs a dear chopper duty. So, this should not be in top priority of patching, if any.ogre wrote:If you're willing to spare a chopper, Once a GB performs training for a turn, you can airlift the GB to a spot and perform a recon. Re: Command and Staff College
The fact it ties down a chopper puts this in the "game" bin as far as I'm concerned. Keep in mind the GB can't move or sweep for mines when performing this extra duty.ERISS wrote:That's an exploit, but not so gamey as it costs a dear chopper duty. Tactic: Based Defense.
How it's done: Set up an ambush (claymore) while a unit is in a base.
Benefit: VC/NVA moving to attack the base will trip the claymore...and be engaged by the base defenders.

This was not actually intended in the design, but makes sense so its going to stayogre wrote:Tactic: Based Defense.

Tactic: Starving Sorties & Bingo Blasters
How It's Done: Units on Red supply status will not die if loaded on transport or resident in a base at end of turn.
Benefit: You can sortie with red supply status units. Just make sure you can either return to base (any base) or get loaded on a transport before the end of the turn. This is particularly effective with forward deployed cobra helicopters located in a forward base without engineer support.
Note: This is not a tactic you strive to achieve. Ideally, you need to keep your units properly supplied. But sometimes the sequence of events puts you in these types of positions. Just because you're out of supply doesn't mean you're out of the fight.

Re: Command and Staff College
This was indeed intended, as when the helo's arrive, the units are deemed to be supplied by them, can be used effectively to maximize the unit productivity, it's similar to driving the Helo's into the red before you land them....
