Really sorry I can't make this one! The theme and superior idea is brilliant.
Two good reasons, only one unit will be painted by then, and 2: it's the weekend I break up for the summer and will be too hungover to move! :(

You should be thinking of getting your army lists in soon.

Would any team be kind enough to bring two armies and play separately if we end up with an odd number of teams?

Looks like I'm on my own now that Simon can't make it. If there's anyone out there who wants to join me, I will provide the army.

Cheers

Richard,

Even with your illegal list (I blame Don) do we have a runners and riders yet?

Richard,

Thanks for the runners and riders. However, there is a fundamental mistake in that whilst I will bring a spare army Ray and I will not be splitting as a team.

Yesterday Alasdair said here might enter as he is free next weekend.

So you're not worried that people are just going to opt for the Westernised armies now fielding Superior Pistol Pistol Determined horse?

Ah well, lets see what the R&R throws up as I would like to fight some eastern exotic types for a change.
Well I was wrong to be worried about lots of Western armies and I do get to fight exotic types so that worked out well. :)

All I need to do now is find out more about these "exotics" and figure out how to properly use the Ottomans we have borrowed :(

I see. I misunderstood.

In which case you had better tell him it is compulsory.

Hmm. Since Alasdair has not entered we still have an odd number of teams.

Is any team willing to play separately?

Bob and Ray are bringing a spare army (Russians) but are apparently unwilling to play separately.

How about 4 teams taking it in turns to split up and play with the Russians?

Would save having a bye and would not stop everyone playing as a team for most of the weekend.

I would be happy to play one round on my own.

I must admit I was thinking along the same lines. It has to be preferable to byes.

Here is the proposal:

I will randomly draw a team to play separately each turn (using Bob's spare army - Later Russians). No team will do this more than once once, and they are at liberty to decline (unless we run out of teams, in which case the last one drawn has to do it).

The team playing separately in the round will count the score of their team army, plus possible bonus points:

2 bonus points if they rout the opposing army with the spare army.
1 bonus point if they score at least 11-9 with the spare army.

In each round after the first, the team using the spare army will play the team with the lowest score, even if they have played them before with their team army. (This is to avoid having to alter the draw after deciding who is playing separately).

Good point, we will have to try to ensure that nobody plays the spare army more than once,

Ray and I would like to thank Richard and the Devizes Club for a great weekend, show and competition. The format made for interesting armies.
Thank you also to our 4 opponents for great and friendly games: -
Tony Rodwell & Max Irving, Alasdair Harley, Richard Jeffrey-Cook & Lance Flint and finally Don McHugh & Richard Bodley Scott.

David and I had a superb weekend; full marks to the Devizes Club, the organisers of the FoG:R competition (Mad Max and his boys in blue say "good call on the period theme"), and our generous - and tolerant - opponents: Bruce & Keith, Bryan & Paul, Paul M (solo), and Tony & Max. As always, we learned much and enjoyed the company of guys who are the very antithesis of the "competition gamer" stereotype. Thank you.

Very pleased to have come so high with an army that had only 12 units and 3 generals, and especially with what - even by my low standards - was a monumentally excremental performance with the dice (so bad, in fact, that failing a death roll of 1 with the first enemy shot in all four games was by no means the worst example!).
