Medical Jeep

Post by InDisguise »

Hello!

I was wondering what exactly the point of the medical jeep is. Yesyesyes I know, it repairs my units. However, it still subtracts the same amount of dosh from my account, and both units still can not act that turn. So what exactly is the point of medic jeepin' them instead of just doing the good old wrench button thing and repairing them that way?

If one of your units takes damage when attacked but doesn't get eliminated, you get an increase in resource points. This will apply to every unit that takes damage without getting destroyed. Pay attention to the resource point total before and after the turn and you will see the increase.

Oh yes, I totally get the resource point part. What I can't quiet figure out is the medical jeep unit.

Or..does this only happen if I have the Jeep actually on the field?

I just put it behind the lines where it's protected, but yes it does have to be deployed.

The Field Medics income (1rp/strength-loss) doesn’t require the Medical Jeep to be deployed and it only works for infantry units. It also works for allied nations where the cash will flow in their separated accounts.

The non-elite heal function of the Medical Jeep is somewhat useful to heal non-repairable units, like captured ones. The JP/US Cargo Truck is also non-repairable if that is ever useful to heal for free in a mission. If one of your allied nations ever runs out of cash, you can use your US Medical Jeep to heal these foreign units with US cash.
Well, otherwise I like the jeep to pace forward to establish a supply line to paratroopers. It’s also useful to capture unoccupied towns and cut off enemy supply lines. It can hold a town for a turn or two against enemies what can be critical sometimes. It’s always useful to have a fast unit handy that can re-establish lost supply lines which the AI loves to cut off on every occasion; wasting a combat unit for this job is often not advisable.
It is cheap like a ’41 infantry unit with the same air and bombard defense, therefore a good distraction for enemy planes and artillery which could otherwise target more expensive units.
Sometimes, I just like its engine sound roaring through the country…

One thing I did not check for was experience. Does the Jeep repair diminish a units experience same as the non-elite repair option? If not, it would be a nice and cheap way to repair experienced units.

The jeep can only heal up to 3 points per turn. The Jeep and healed infantry’s efficiency will drop to 3 by this heal method, so it’s not recommended to do when enemies are nearby. The efficiency drop by jeep-heal is recovered on the next turn.
I’ve tested the lost experience on a 10k exp infantry unit which lost 3 strength points. The result was that recovering 3 strength points by jeep showed 6938 xp while the inf's self-repair function showed 6800.
If the opportunity ever arises to repair for example aux units, the jeep is therefore the better alternative to keep more exp.
