More on Swapping Side 0 and Side 1?

Okay, this is driving me nuts...
I've been working on a set of scenarios about Otto Carius, all drawn from the book "Tigers in the Mud".
Since the scenarios are about his exploits and becoming a Tiger ace, I develop the scenarios as SP with the player side being the Germans so that I can play test them against the AI, then I save them as MP scenarios once I have the play balance right.
The problem, however, is that in half of the scenarios the Russians, not the Germans, are attacking.
What's killing me is the way the Victory Conditions plug-in works: Side 0 can only "capture" and Side 1 can only "defend". That really screws things up when I'm trying to set up Side 1 (AI) to attack and Side 0 (Otto Carius) to defend. I seem to be able to work around it okay in SP mode, but It appears to be causing me no end of automatic mission failures the moment the scenario opens when I change to MP.
I've tried swapping the sides after I switch the scenario to MP, but then all the VC icons show the wrong nationality...and I'm not sure this would fix the problem anyway...
Is there an easy fix for this (i.e. setting Victory Conditions for Side 0 when it's defending), or should I just give up (under these circumstances) on developing scenarios in SP mode and then trying to convert them to MP?
