Protected Status Duration
I have a Commanded Shot unit that was charged by enemy horse. It received the "protected" +100 POA because of adjacent friendly horse. The friendly horse have since moved or have been driven away on a subsequent turn yet the Commanded shot is still receiving the POA modifier. It seems that the POA modifier is assigned at the start of the combat and continues until the combat is over (unless the shot becomes fragmented) regardless of changes external to the combat. Is this intentional?

Unless there is something else (ie terrain) that gives the shot "protection" it sounds like a possible bug. (although adjacent is a loose term, I beleive the horse can also be behind or diagonlly behind the shot??, have to check the rules)w_michael wrote:I have a Commanded Shot unit that was charged by enemy horse. From 11.2.5 Protection: "c) They are commanded shot who are not attacking, and who have unbroken friendly non-light mounted troops in an adjacent tile (not including the 3 tiles to the commanded shot’s “rear”)."
in my game both the Commanded Shot and the enemy horse are in open terrain with no intervening obstacle. As I said, the shot is receiving the POA even though there are no longer any adjacent friendly horse.

Re: Protected Status Duration
Strangely in the next turn the Commanded Shot did not have the +100 Mele POA from protection. I should have taken a screen shot when it originally happened.
In another game though, my opponent has a fragmented Commanded Shot unit that received the +100 Melee POA Protected even though 11.2.2 says that fragmented units do not. Attached is a screen shot. My cursor indicates the enemy horse providing the "protection". My horse did correctly receive the +100 Melee POA Pistol (Melee) because the enemy Commanded Shot was not steady.
I'll keep an eye on it and post any anomalies with a screen shot.

Protected status has no duration, it is determined on the current situation.
I will have to check out the issue re Fragmented commanded shot when I get back from Italy.

You are correct, the code that tests for commanded shot being severely disordered is present, but there is no code testing for it being fragmented. Congratulations on being the first person to report this bug (8 months after initial release)!w_michael wrote:In another game though, my opponent has a fragmented Commanded Shot unit that received the +100 Melee POA Protected even though 11.2.2 says that fragmented units do not.
