OoBP crashes in US Leyte Mission

Post by Andy2012 »

Hi folks,

I really love this game. However, it keeps on crashing in the US Leyte mission to the point where it is unplayable.
I don't mind the occasional crash, but this is getting too much.

The game regularly crashes to Desktop during the AI turn. I have installed the hotfix and switched off the spinning Japanese flag icon during AI turns; I have updated to version 1.70 and my drivers are apparently up to date. The game tells me "too many heap sections" and the AI turns are unbelievably slow. This only happened in the Leyte Mission; the other ones worked reasonably (although not flawlessly). I tried switching to 2D view, have disabled almost all details to reduce the strain on my computer - didn't change a thing. I can't imagine my PC is too weak for this.

I attach the savegames, dxdiag and the other files you ask for in your sticky post in a zip file.
Please help me out. This game is way too good (and too expensive) to just move on and play Panzercorps instead.
Thanks,
Andy

Thanks for the quick answer. I have gone through the list you linked to before posting: I have posted dxdiag, savegame, optionslog etc. I have described the problem ("crash during AI turn, error message "too many heap sections"). My system specs are in the dxdiag. What else is missing?

Hi Andy,

We've had a few reports similar to yours. At a broad level, it's memory related, but it's tricky to identify the underlying cause. Some players with very modest specs don't see the problem, so it's not necessarily linked to the quality of your build.

We've made a lot of memory optimisations in our internal builds, and we're looking for people to test them. If you can reproduce this issue easily, would you be interested in testing a beta build?

I read those reports in the steam forums and here, especially about laggy AI turns.
Yes, I am willing to do some beta testing. (My system specs are sort of modest, as you see from the dxdiag).
I have reproduced the crashes with all sorts of settings in the Performance tab (switching on and off lighting, switching to 2D etc, different resolutions). I always thought that maybe my CPU might be too weak; but I did not have any significant problems during large carrier battles or other missions. The game froze sometimes and sometimes crashed during loading a quicksave, but that was it.

What do I have to do for beta testing a new build? Just download an update and see if it works?

We're thinking about doing a public beta test for the upcoming patch in a few days. There have been significant code changes so we need it tested extensively to make sure nothing got broken.

No promises these changes will fix or alleviate your problems, but it would be very helpful if you gave it a try. An official announcement should follow soon (on these forums).

Always here to help. (And getting the game to work.) I will check back here and look around the forums - or do you PM everybody?
