WotR Royal Guard
I may have got this wrong, so please forgive me but... outside of an historical scenario why would anyone have Royal Guard MaA in their army? I ask because due to the BG size (2) they effectively autobreak at 50% losses, though Superior is normally 60%. Seems a lot of extra points for little return.

As long as they keep on winning fights and superior knights tend to win a fair amount you will need to have taken more than 2 hits to have any chance of losing a base. If you throw them into the middle of a long enemy line they will be absorbed but to be honest I suspect that given the chance a lot of knight armies would have multiple BGs of 2 knights if they were allowed.
The downside is that if you put a general with them you are only boosting 4 dice which is not ideal.

As they only have a BG of 2 the % loss they can take is irrelevant as any lost base removes them. The cost of 26/base seemed a little high in these circumstances, also considering that this will tend to make them missile magnets.rbodleyscott wrote:They don't. However, if in a BG of 2, they are removed from play at the end of the JAP if reduced to 1 base.

Keep them back to administer a telling charge, likely in company with other small mounted BGs. Yes, they are expensive in points and missile magnets if you allow them to be. Led by a general, though, against the right targets and supported by other troops....
All that having been said, my WotR armies are nearly always 100% on foot!

They will only be missile magnets if on their own. If they have troops on both sides of them it is very unlikely that any shooter can score 3 hits to give even a 1 in 6 chance of killing a base.Mulciber wrote:As they only have a BG of 2 the % loss they can take is irrelevant as any lost base removes them. Like all troops, it is how you use them that matters.
