Multiplayer Opponents

Post by SSLConf_Yolo911 »

Hi,

I've been a strategy gamer for many years (MemoryLeak on Matrixgames) but I've never taken the plunge
to do multiplayer game.

But I'd like to start

I went to the multiplayer lobby but all but two of the games are locked and of the two remaining I only found
one of the modified games to download. Anyway is there any other place that lists people interested in a match?

I'm retired and I can spend all the time needed to play an opponent. I just don't one who "games" the play by knowing insider moves
to make or things like that.

I've been playing OOB:Pacific about 8 hours a day since it came out so I can hold my own except I understand a human opponent is
much more adept and cunning.

normally, unlocked games go pretty quick. I would suggest you host a few challenges for games you would like to play and wait, someone will pick them up. Also, if you want to play some of the other scenarios by Erik, I highly recommend downloading them. he has quite a few out there and all are very good.

I tend to update my scenarios pretty often.
Make sure you download the latest before you post a challenge.
I also have a tendency to pick up these challenges as it gives me an opportunity to re-test.

is there a place or method to get legitimate opponents? I joined the Burma battle that a player named KOMODA initiated. It was suppose to be 160 turns. I get this email message

"Dear Player

The following game has completed

Battle: 1v1 Burma 1942-45
Turns: 5

This game is now complete but you can view a playback of the final turn by running Order of Battle: Pacific and clicking Multiplayer. Select this game from the list of current games and click Play
."

I log in and it says the game is over. After many years of playing these games, last week I decided to try multiplayer for the first time. SO far it hasn't been a very good experience.

I am retired and can devote as much time and as many turns as necessary. Is there a site or thread devoted to serious multiplayers? ones that won't flake?

I know I've seen them for some games.

Thanks

Not to shoot down Erik's scenarios, but perhaps you should start with some of the official scenarios if you are new to multiplayer. It might be an error in the design of this specific scenario you played that caused it to end prematurely, so the opponent may not have been responsible?

EDIT: I've hosted a reserved game for you to join if you're up for it. Let me know if you do join it, because I'm not checking the MP lobby regularly atm.

Okay. Thanks. I guess I just assumed that the scenarios were at least given a limited amount of testing.

They probably are, so I don't want to blame the scenario without prove. Just saying custom scenarios MAY have issues which could spoil your limited experience with MP.

I have of course tested the scenario, although not all 160 turns. But more than 5. Note that this is a fairly new custom scenario, not an official one.
I need to know which objectives were held by each side to tell you if the result was OK.
But I can't believe 5 turns would lead to an automatic victory, I design my objectives so that they can change hands several times.
Anyway, Lukas has a good point. Better start with one of the official multiplayer scenarios if you are fairly new to this, they have been played many times during beta and also after the official release.
I'll check the objectives in my custom scenario...

Might've been the opponent resigned for some reason. The game doesn't show that in a clear way at the moment...

Hi Erik,

I was the Japanese. I only had one or two cities and no victory hexes. I guess we have to hope KOMODO speaks up and says he resigned.

Aha, let's hope it is something 'trivial' like a resign...
Sorry about the rough intro to multiplayer.

Erik,

Adherbal was kind enough to set up a multiplayer game. We are doing a cooperative scenario (Bataan).

Very enjoyable. I just hope I'm not depriving him of too much sleep because of the time difference between California and Belgium!
