Well I thought it was fantastic, and everyone involved deserves to be congratulated.
So... congratulations!

And Slitherine did choose this. Slitherine has no control on their own choice? And they compel to Steam.IainMcNeil wrote:Humble only use Steam - they have no other way to distribute the games. This is something outside our control. they only do one game like drl-free version in a bundle.
So it means that Slitherine has been bought by Gabbe.
If not, Slitherine could have chosen https://groupees.com to make a complete drm-free bundle.

Thanks for the link. I never heard of this one either.
I agree. Being able to download the actual game and a key number would have been far better. I finally got the three games I'm particularly interested in all setup with steam but don't think I will ever like it.

Re: Slitherine gets an Humble Bundle!
I dont see a problem here. Matrix fans can still purchase these games at manly wargamer prices(not kiddie allowance prices that cheapen their intellectual value) get them from an oldschool download link(not some casual one click install), and the rest of the (casual, not manly wargamer) world can get a cheap looksy through the cracks of Fort Niche, on a non grognard dowload platform they are comfortable using.ERISS wrote:I can understand that Slitherine likes to sell wind (Steam keys are not games),
but Slitherine by being Gabbe whore will lost the gamers who want games.
What a chagrin.
Worst thing could happen Slitherine gets more press and more fans. And double the shipped number of copies for games participating in the bundle in a week.

Yeah sometimes i hold my head when i see people that want wargaming to forever be an obscure niche hobby of a few thousand people, with overpriced indie class products, and basically no innovation from the 90s onwards. Slitherine is trying its best to make wargaming more appealing, but it seems part of the fanbase doesnt want this. Such a shame.

Re: Slitherine gets a Humble Bundle!
Humble is just another place you can buy the games. It absolutely is not taking over and we will always b selling the game direct from our site for anyone who prefers it.
If you don't like Steam then absolutely nothing has changed as far as you are concerned. I'm sure you're not suggesting we should not allow people to buy from Steam if that is what they prefer. It's all about choice, nothing more.
Sorry to ruin the conspiracy theories

Well for a second i did fear you have had a Jeff "Indie Games Should Cost More" Vogel like revelation* and changed your ways.IainMcNeil wrote:It absolutely is not taking over

"You must be this hardcore to post links." - i like that

Quote: "Vogel: Nope. This is how indie games (well, all computer games) are sold these days: Full price for a couple months. Then ratchet the price down fast. First 50% off, then 75% off, then bundle pricing. It’s how we use every part of the buffalo. I believe that letting your game be in a bundle on the first day of release would be a colossal mistake, but not as big as never dropping the price at all. But this is key: The low prices are always for temporary sales. The low prices are never ever permanent. That is how you maintain the value of your back catalog."
So we have a bundle now. Maybe Slitherine will join the Steam Summer Seal event next?

mod: I really dont want to sound rude or inappropriate, but venturing to the Matrix/Slitherine forums usually causes me culture shock. I love your games to bits(well the ones i can afford anyway

Re: Slitherine gets a Humble Bundle!
Just wanted to say thanks for the bundle. While drm-free copies would be nice indeed, I can live with using Steam - all digital copies of games are "wind" anyways whichever the source might be.
I'm having a great time playing BA (MP is just amazing), Hell (too bad the MP games are so scarce) and Qvadriga. And I've put BA's DLCs and BA2 on my most wanted list.

Well i agree, they could opt for DRM free executables in Steam. Graviteam does this, they use Steam as a "download service", you can run their games without the client, and even use non-steam DLC with the downloaded game. ** REMOVED **ERISS wrote:and bad press and less fan with those wargamers who don't like drm.hunsnotdead wrote:Worst thing could happen Slitherine gets more press and more fans

And about your betrayal, well they picked the biggest and best known bundle site on the net that has a flawless reputation, but they on the other hand shied away from hosting files themselves in recent times, so it was either shady litle bundle sites like Indie Royale(whos parent company is just became bankrupt btw), or Steam only. Surely you wouldnt want stick with a DRM free download just to find that you couldnt download it one day(remember Matrix in Digital River times? how fun were expiring downloads

And about your terrible revenge on Slitherine, would you really hold a grudge against the biggest wargamer publisher because you missed a sale? Come on were better than that. ^^

I've edited your post to remove the discussion of piracy. This is not allowed in any form. I know you were not advocating it but please don't discuss it here or you will be banned!
