random ctd every 3-6 turn ( V: 1.6.7)

System:
Windows 7 (32bit) sp1
Core i7 cpu 3.1 ghz
6 GB RAM (3 usable)
Geforce GTX 760 (latest drivers installed)


Hello everyone,

The game crashes to desktop quite randomly as said above. No error message, it just stops working. It happens during the AI turn, in campaign, in any battle. I played in French, it happened, switched to English for the very same result ...

I did not notice anything like this before the steam update to the latest patch.

Quite a pity if you ask me, as the game has a definitely an awesome potential !

Two weeks since I posted this thread, and no answer.

Since then, the crashes still occur. Now I even have a "too many heap sections" message. Great. Looks the 1.7.0 patch brought a great relief.


Guess I will think twice the next time I will see some Slitherine labelled stuff.

Have you tried a clean install and then the upgrade to v1.7 ?
It is not clear (to me) in your post if you have done that.
Also, delete everything in the Settings folder.

So, I did not manually install the updates, since I bought it on steam. However I uninstalled and re installed it throught steam.

As well, I deleted the content of the settings folder, for nothing.

I lowered the performances to the lowest possible level, and this allowed me to experience a ctd every about 6 turns instead 3.

And now, since the 1.7.0 patch, the game is almost unplayable as it crashes on almost every AI turn with the "too many heap sections" message.



The fact is : the game has some serious optimization issues.

4 years of tech support for Panzer corps : 725 topics
1 month of tech support for order of battle : 100 topics
Nuff said.

I have bought slitherine stuff since 2011 and never had to complain in any way.

But now ...

The savegame you've attached to the original post, does that crash consistantly for you? I played 3 turns from there but could not repeat the issue.

We're currently working on code and rendering optimalisations which will hopefully reduce or fix these crashing issues eventually. The error logs don't contain any direct clues (only hinting to memory issues) so it's hard to track this down.

On a sidenote, looking at the savegame it appears you used the "#orbitalcommand" cheat? If you are having performance/memory issues you should probably avoid that, because if everything is visible it has to render and animate a lot more stuff.

As you have a 32bit Windows please also consider this:

Open the game Options, and click on the Performance tab. Disable Bloom and set Render Quality, Effects Quality and Lightning Quality to the lowest settings.

If the issue persists do also the following:
Open the game Options, and click on the Audio & VIdeo tab and set the Music Volume, Sound Volume and Weather & Ambient Sounds to the left.


Please also note that we had also around 80 support tickets open for Panzer Corps during the first and a half month. So there isn't a big difference, specially if we consider that this engine is more demanding (a true 3D engine) than the one Panzer Corps have.

Hello ! After the tests I see that: in MIDWAY Japan Campaign after installing the patch 1.6.7, and 1.7.0) Us navy has only 3 carriers !! and I could not to achieve second priority "Destroy all carriers". Before installing this two patches I remember that was 4 CARRIERS. When the newest patch will be ready please remember about this bug...

@letarsier59: Are you interested in trying a newer beta version of the game? If you are seeing crashes so regularly your PC would be a good testing machine to see if the recent code optimalisations we've done already have an effect on stability.
