Is multiplayer any good?
I'm considering picking this up. A factor in my decision is quality of the multiplayer experience. Any comments on this?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Re: Is multiplayer any good?
I'm a big fan of multiplayer, I think I've got about 10 games going now.
There is something satisfying about the unpredictability of human players.
Note that players still take turns. You upload your turn and the opponent get an email stating it is his/hers turn.
I don't bother checking emails anymore, I just log on whenever I have some free time and there is usually a turn waiting for me.

I agree with Erik, playing against a human is very unpredictable! Not to mention all his great multiplayer scenarios he has created!!

Sometimes "multiplayer" causes some confusion. In many games it means only 2 players for a PBEM game. I believe right now it is only two players on this game as well but they are planning to be able to have more in the future. So just in case it wasn't clear multi often means 2. That said it is a great way to play the game and learn tactics from others in the process.
Re: Is multiplayer any good?
Multiplayer is up to 4 player. It depends on the scenario you select to play.

We're interested in playing "live" (so to speak) with three players. Any thought on what would be the best approach for that?
In the past, we've played a lot of games on VASSAL using a headset and teamspeak voice-communication software. It was about a close as you could get to playing face-to-face, but online with far-away opponents. We were hoping to get a somewhat similar experience with OOB Pacific.

well I purchased the game last night and working my way through the tutorial. Throughly enjoying it. I was up until after 1 am and a little bleary eyed this morning
Very immersive, easy to get into and definitely has that just one more turn pull factor.
Looking forward to digging into this and then getting some multiplayer games up and running.

Multiplayer is great!! I would personally enjoy the experience much more if there was at least an option for live games as well as the asynchronous games. I enjoy sitting down and completing a turn-based game in its entirety and with PBEM that usually doesn't occur. Waiting 3 days for the other player to complete their turn and then trying to remember what was happening in each game is a bit hectic as well as juggling my strategies between 5 ongoing games. I shouldn't complain but in regards to PBEM it seems to be a case where more is actually less. As I said it is still great fun as it sits though! Some folks love PBEM.
