F0G - Historicon?

Post by NealSmith »

Hey All,

I was just searching the online PEL for Historicon and noticed that there appear to be NO FoG games being run?

Is it just tournament stuff?

Seems like Slitherine/RBS/etc. could have convinced someone to run a game or two! :)

Thanks,
Neal

Well this is on the tournaments board:

"Field of Glory at Historicon

NASAMW will run three tournaments using the Field of Glory (FoG) rules at Historicon. All three events will be run in 15mm. They will also be run in 25mm with the following caveat: if not enough players sign up for a particular event to allow a viable tournament the organizers reserve the right to cancel that event. 25mm events will be played on an 8x5 table using 40mm for a movement unit. All players, in both scales, are encouraged to contact Marc Crotteau at juvenileshark@yahoo.com in advance of Historicon to say which scale they are likely to play. This will help immensely with allocating available table space.

There will be prizes based on tournament results and for best presented army.

Thursday: Field of Glory Mini Open “Start with Starters”

This tournament, in particular, should be considered to be a learning event. Experienced players will be on hand to explain the game and answer rules questions from beginners. Three rounds starting at noon Thursday. Players may bring any starter army from any of the published FoG books. Games will last three hours.

1st round starts at 12:00pm
2nd round starts at 4:00pm
3rd round starts at 8:00pm

Friday: Field of Glory Theme tournament "The Classical Era"

Three rounds, starting at 9:00am. Players may bring any army from the Immortal Fire and Rise of Rome army list books. The 15mm event will be played at 800 points; the 25mm event will be played at 650 points.

1st round starts at 9:00am
2nd round starts at 2:00pm
3rd round starts at 7:00pm

Saturday: Field of Glory Open tournament

Three rounds, starting at 9:00am. Players may bring any army from any of the published FoG army list books. The 15mm event will be played at 800 points; the 25mm event will be played at 650 points.

1st round starts at 9:00am
2nd round starts at 2:00pm
3rd round starts at 7:00pm"

Hmmmm. I'll have to check the PEL. I submitted the same listing that Nik just re-posted. It should be there. I promise that there will be FoG at Historicon.

I think that Neal might be looking for non-tournament FoG events at Historicon, and so hadn't perused the tournament section.

Cheers,
Scott

P.S. The Historicon 2008 PEL tournament section links to the following PDF, where the FoG events are listed under "Fields of Glory": http://www.historicon.org/HIST2008/file ... aments.pdf

The NASMW web site also currently lists FoG as "Fields of Glory": http://www.nasamw.org/umpires.htm

Ahh. Well, I know nothing about non-tournament events. Can't help there.

I know nothing about tournament events... :)

I searched for "fog" and "field" and didn't turn up any actual games using the rules.

Well I'm going to Historicon and would also be interested in playing FOG other than in the tournaments. I've never been to Historicon before and so am not sure I want to spend the entire day at a tournament when there is so much there to see, not to mention the fact that (and this is the big reason) I doubt I'll be able to get my army painted up in time to play in a tournaments even if I want to. I'll at least watch some of the tournament games going on but was also hoping there would be a FOG game being run for people who wanted to just show up and play.

Don't let an incomplete army keep you from playing in one (or more) of the tournaments. You can undoubtedly find someone to lend you a few BGs worth of figures if you ask in advance. There are a number of players who drive to Lancaster, so it is rarely any trouble. Email me off-list or send me a PM if you need help getting it sorted out.

Someone has mentioned plans to do a participatory Rohan vs. Isengard scenario using larger miniatures. I imagine there must be some people not playing in all of the tournaments who could put on historical games as well.
