Flanking bug?

Hi folks, in this example I can't see why the unit attacking from the north doesn't receive a flanking bonus?
Is this a bug or lack of understanding on my part?

All the criteria seem to be met by the unit to the SW?

A unit engaging a target can get outflanking support from other friendly units.
To provide such a bonus, the friendly unit must be:
1. Adjacent to the target unit – OK
2. NOT adjacent to the attacking unit – OK
3. NOT adjacent to any other enemy unit which is also adjacent to the target – OK

I was hoping for a comment to find out if this was a bug or not. It seems like a bug to me. Do other players not experience this?
Again here no flanking bonus.

Is this a rare problem or is the flanking bonus in the game fairly random?
Quite annoying when you plan an attack in order to get the bonus but don't.

I would be happy to find out that I am making a mistake.

Maybe 3 'NOT adjacent to any other enemy unit which is also adjacent to the target' should read 'NOT adjacent to any other enemy unit'?

I think that's right. I experienced it all the time. If the support unit is touching an enemy unit it won't give support.

IIRC the first picture no flanking bonus as the flanker have a enemy beside him the Phillipine recruit which negates the flanking bonus as he is too buzy protecting himself to help flank. For the second picture the flanker support because he have no other enemy adjacent to him hence he is free to help.

In my experience, you are correct. The wording of the rule needs to be updated.
