This might be a really obviously dumb question, but am I right to assume that buying the game from Steam means I can't use any mods? I can't find anything about them, since a long time ago, when they might have been talking about a boxed game.

There are many nice mods available for this game and as far as I know most can be used with the steam version, too. However, for some more complex mods you might need to use a mod installer called GME (Generic Mod Enabler) as unfortunately the steam version of PzC has no workshop at the moment. You just have to check out the Scenario Design section of this forum for more info and a selection of mods:

There are 2 types of mods:-

a) Ones where all the data goes in the mods Folder - These will have no Problems.

b) Ones where core game data files are changed - For These you would probalby have to prevent Steam autoupdating/autochecking. These do not require the GME, but it is very advisable. The GME automates the Installation and Deinstallation/restore to original

They all work fine, as long as you don't let steam overwrite any files. But if you have a non-Steam version as well then keep the mods on that and keep the Steam version mod-free. This saves a lot of trouble when the game accidently gets messed up.
