Any tips for invading the UK?
Successful campaign in Europe, North Africa, Middle East etc, France surrenders in early 1917, followed closely be italy, even occupied The Netherlands to take advantage of port facilities. bought lots of transport, subs and bombers/airships but could I get a toe hold on the home Islands - every landing lasted no longer than two turns before being annihilated. Got to turn 118 with a Bulgarian unit on Lizard point! Didn't help that the islands were like an armed camp. Anybody successfully taken the home islands any tips appreciated?

First off: Amphibious assaults (or landings aka disembarking) should always be supported by surface fleets, both for bombardment and supply source (full), until you capture a local city (half supply), or if you are real lucky an enemy Capital city (full supply). There are no forts in England proper. If this is not your problem, it might be you do not have enough air support. Fighters come in real handy supporting landings by Southhampton, as well as long range zeppelins and bombers. The AI seems to always have an endless amount of units, but often tends not to repair them. So once in awhile do a dummy attempt to land, only to suck some of the English units to the coast, leaving themselves exposed to fleet bombardments and serious air attacks, weather them down for a few turns, in the meantime embark fresh units to take the place of the troop transport that has been sitting on the coast for a number of turns (send him back to a safe port for refit). Eventually you should see an opportunity to actually land, however, have other units nearby that are also ready to land, either right next to the landing or somewhere out of sight, but within movement range. One other thing: Select only your best infantry for your first landings and have commanders ready to be deployed too. There's more to what I'm saying. I don't know how to post screenshots here, but over at the Matrix CTGW forum it's a piece of cake to attach screenshots to comments like this.. (Pictures make explanations a lot easier)...Evzone wrote:Successful campaign in Europe, North Africa, Middle East etc, France surrenders in early 1917, followed closely be italy, even occupied The Netherlands to take advantage of port facilities. bought lots of transport, subs and bombers/airships but could I get a toe hold on the home Islands - every landing lasted no longer than two turns before being annihilated. Thanks, very useful, I'll give it go next opportunity I get. Totally agree with your points about air and naval cover, although I had fleets in the channel ports I was reluctant to commit them to the assault as the RN was still active. I tried diversionary landings to split the defenders in the North of Scotland and West of Plymouth to gain a port and a foothold. Thanks again, all good tips!

Same ploy using naval assets: Transports usually attract enemy fleets. If it's sub fleets: have your zeppelins at the ready, if it's surface fleets attacking or nosing around have your best surface fleets at the ready to counter-attack, and or isolate the attacking fleet(s) till the naval threat is not an issue.. Again, you can have your fleets nearby protecting transports, or far enough away to swoop in for a desired attack. Isolating is one the best ways to ensure an entire kill of an enemy fleet (subs are very good at this).Evzone wrote:Thanks, very useful, I'll give it go next opportunity I get.
