Battle report from Argentina - Rome vs Carthage

Post by Seldon »

I am originally from Argentina but am now leaving in Austin, and I had been trying to push my wargaming group back in Argentina to playtest FOG, so finally after seeing the report about the first battle on the Punic Wars mini campaing they got together and gave FOG a try.

Unfortunately since I was not there I cannot present a full battle report, maybe some of the players will show up and make some comments. Otherwise maybe on the upcoming battles we'll see some full reports.

BUT, here are the pictures (lots of them ).
The battle was fought with 25mm and since space was not a problem they used 1MU = 40mm. The referee central command ( my brother and I ) misconverted the initial set up distance that is why the battle lines started farther appart than they should have. No big problem, next time this will be fixed.

Here you go , Rome vs African Carthaginian army, 750 pts..

Part of the roman line breaks through but the rest break AWAY !!

As I am told, in a battle smartly played by both sides where each used terrain extremley well the edge ended up going to the Carthaginian who managed to get a close victory !!

They had fun and greatly enjoyed the new rules !!

Indeed the table is big :) that is why they decided to go with the 1MU = 4cm ( 40mm)

The table can be expanded to something like 350 cm x 240 cm.

The 6x4 feet table converted to inches would be 72 x 48 inches, then converted to 1 inch = 1 MU = 4 cm it should have gone to 288 cm x 192 cm.

The terrain was set up with the table at 300 cm by 200 cm ( slightly bigger than the 6x4 ) no big deal there, but as you can see the armies deployed almost against the table edges, when they should have deployed in the first 40 cm for non skirmishers and 60 cm for skirmishers.
This is why they started a bit too far appart and it took them longer to run the game, plus there was excessive initial maneuvres.

For next time the correct initial distance between armies will be used.

BTW, the enthusiasm is growing so it looks like next time might be as soon as this upcoming Saturday, hopefully we'll get some more pictures !

cheers,

Francisco

Great looking game! I would love to have a table that large.

Next time you are in Australia, bring your figures with you!
