Some gripes and observations about the game

Sovereignty is a turn-based fantasy strategy game for the PC. It combines a kingdom management campaign game with a general's level tactical battle game.

Some gripes and observations about the game

Post by enpi »

First I have to admit not to played it but only looked at some youtube lets play videos. But there are some things which were strange and IMO need a change in the actual game.

-capturing capital territories: In real life capturing a capital is one of the downfall of the enemy and will usually not be penalized by every other nearby power especially an ally. (or do you think that the brits in WW2 had something against the USSR capture of berlin?) Its REALLY downturning for me that you get a major diplomacy penalty when you do this. Thats unintuitive and a silly rule.

-the blackening of units which have taken their turn in tactical combat is ugly. And the the most strange thing is that the AI obviously use also these black circles. So half of the gaming time you constantly see dozens of ugly black half circles or black circles with ugly black crosses instead of nice unit portraits. In 2015 there should be a more modern UI solution for this. (eg look at games like OOB Pacific, Warhammer 40k or panzer corps)

-the rear tactical victory points in an area are sometimes not even theoretical reachable by the army even if they have no enemy opposition. Was this playtested with slow armies like dwarfs? Solution would be to get rid of the turn limit or greatly enhance it.

-I observed that the tactical AI plays like bad in tactical combat. Instead of staying in good defensive terrain and/or objective cities and defending them and giving the player a challenging fight, it often wanders senselessly around.

-why I cannot see the exact number of hitpoints of a unit displayed on its card or when you mouse over? Maybe I oversaw it in the gameplay video but if not, I think the red hp bar as sole HP feedback is too abstract especially if all other stats in the combat have clear numbers.

-please make it optional to accept every combat as tactical combat or not. It makes no sense that half of the combats you are forced to autocombat.

Principally I find the idea of a campaign map and tactical combat very interesting but at this stage without the above points resolved I cannot imagine to buy or play it.

Thanks, enpi. We are in Early Access at this time and are working toward many of the improvements you mentioned.

The grievous diplomatic penalty for the capture of enemy capitals has already been mitigated, and will undergo a second fine-tuning.
