Unused Content in Game Files: Hints Toward DLC?

Post by monkspider »

Hey guys,

I did a little snooping through the game files and found a few interesting things. For one, there are flags and emblems for a lot of countries not in the game including China, the USSR, France, Italy and even Thailand. Here is a screenshot of some of them.

Secondly, in the text files there are references to a Panzer I unit for China. This would be a completely unique unit that neither Japan or the US have, and could be a strong hint at what the first DLC will be focused on since none of the other unused countries had unique units like this. Here is what I saw:

// ************************************ //
// //
// CHINA //
// //
// ************************************ //

// TANKS ************************* //

[PzKw_IB_China]
id = 211
faction = china
category = land
class = tank
model = PzKw_IB_China
counter = PzKw_IB_China
chassis = track_light
weaponEffect = M3_Stuart
moveEffect = AxTankLight
available = 1/8/1941
weapon = vehicle_attack, 4-7
weapon = infantry_attack, 8
defense = air_defense, 14
defense = naval_defense, 14
defense = vehicle_defense, 6
defense = infantry_defense, 10
defense = bombard_defense, 14

During WW2 the communists were integrated into the nationalist army, so it wouldn't make sense to separate them.

I hope they do the whole war in China, starting from Manchuria in 1931, Shanghai in 1932, Operation Nekka in Northern China and Inner Mongolia etc.

@FOARP, the Chinese never integrated as Nationalism army is coward under Chiang which is retreating and hoping for American support in South and Communism under Mao fought back the Japanese in North which is the main reason why the Chinese supported Mao after the war

Chiang fought a pretty effective war of attrition against the Japanese. That was his strategy as soon as the Marco Polo bridge incident occured. He would fight, retreat, and then fight again. The Japanese were conquering cities early on but Chiang was able to keep throwing troops against them. I wouldn't say it was cowardly, he just didn't have the armor and aircraft to fight the Japanese head on.

Back on topic, I am curious if any of the more folks who are more skilled at modding have found anything juicy.

The Chinese situation is complex. The Communists and Nationalists essentially declared a truce in 1937 after ten years of fighting each other and turned their efforts to fighting the Japanese invaders, but they fought as separate armies. Then their civil war resumed after Japan surrendered, and the Nationalists fled to Taiwan in 1949.

It would be very interesting the idea of a DLC with the Japanese campaign in China, and it would be very logical. Japan's campaign was oriented in Asia since its inception all those in the Far East region.
on the subject of the civil war in China I am inclined to think it was not that he liked nacinalistas and communist ally, but rather a need for an external enemy. when I came to the conclusion WW2, the civil war continued and the whole subsequent history as we know it

forgive my English, I speak Spanish and use google translator :oops:

Let's hope they give us the DLC before I finish the campaign on hardest difficulty. Once I am done with that hardest difficulty I will not play it again if there is no DLC prolly would even forget bout the game if it take too long.

Many of my games are calling me to play them atm :)
