Re: BA2 Skirmish Tournament
Hi all,
I've just returned from my travels in Europe and will figure out what to do when someone have to leave the tournament.
I can report that traveling by train in Europe is very nice, especially if you are traveling in First Class in high speed trains. Often you get free wifi, coffee, fruit, newspapers, and in some cases a three course meal (wine or beer included) while traveling at a speed of 320 km/h (200 mph)

Actually we found the the trains in Britain to be good. That said, we were not dependend on trains being on time. And compared to Sweden, in Britain we had to wait no more than 30 min for the next train, not 1 hour or more as in Sweden.macnab wrote:Bet you found a difference on British Rail, they said on telly other day one train line has never been on time yet,

Hi all,
Sorry I've not told you what to do when people have to leave the tournament. As this tournament is an experience to test this format and to test the skirmish mode for tournament games, any player leaving the tournament will automatically have all their games set as lost 0-1.

Re: BA2 Skirmish Tournament
Dear All.
A few days ago I decided to start my active participation in this tournament, in response the challenge of Best75. So, I sent challenges to all the members of my group. At that time, I wasn't unaware of the special issues that actually are involving the skirmishes games generated in the current version of BA2.
That issues, at least from my point of view are the following.
1- All the skirmishes penalizes heavily the options against the german player. The fact is whatever year of the war you select; Soviets usually have a big advantage in armour quality and even in quantity, besides, outnoumbering the german side...
2- That's the reason almost every challenge I launch nearly all my rivals have selected the red army.
e.i.: So I find myself trying to deal in 1944 games the impressives JS-2's and T34/85's with (less) PZIII's, PZIV-F2, and a Stg-3! Can anyone wonder what would happen in Prokhorovka with that stuff??
No option to Panthers, no Tigers, no Elephants, no Pack43-88's?
3- If you chooses 1941games, your rivals quickly tend to harass your with their T34's and BT tanks. They know they will have no opposition in PzII or early PzIII and the tiny AT37. Germans doesn't have option to 88's, neither engineers, nor at least some compensation in more infantry...
4- I wonder many players realised all of the above earlier than me. Maybe that explains why, since the start date of the tournement, I only received one single challenge... People don't want to suffer the bitter fate of crushing defeat under the red hordes
5- So, after all those considerations, I must announce that I'm going to freeze all my current ongoing games (with those players who still haven't given me the opportunity to command the Stalin's guys, by returning me a challenge). Be very sure what will be my selection: Soviet side
Regards
R.

Re: BA2 Skirmish Tournament
What Avis stated has some truth for the German Panzer Corps '43 because it has to go up against a Soviet Mech 44 I believe. Though the other combos are fine I find. I win my fair share of games as German units.
Maybe that combo should be unavailable for a future tournament? The PzIIILs and PzIVFs really don't stand a chance against IS2, T34/85s and SUs.

Agree with avis with him being the best player on here he doesn't lose ! I've beaten him once in many games over 2years on evenly matched games and that was on ba1 I am a decent player and been whooped by noobs on skirmish maps ! The sooner cave puts his blood and honour maps up for a tourney the better there by far better than skirmish slitherine should pay him !
Re: BA2 Skirmish Tournament
Cant save in the spreadsheat:
Won my return leg vs macnab: 6:0
Won 1st leg vs MacD2013: 5:3
The game vs. MacD2013 was 43 Pz vs 44 Allies: I as soviet was sloppy in the beginning, he overran my right flank, should have lost the game, but the quality of my tanks helped to get a victory.
That said, the 44 vs 43 matchups are definitely skewed, the armour of IS IIs impregnable for the small german tanks and they have a hard time vs the 85s and the 152s. I think the 41 matchups are more balanced, especially if you choose an urban setting.

Thanks for the kind wordglenghiscan wrote:The sooner cave puts his blood and honour maps up for a tourney the better there by far better than skirmish slitherine should pay him !

Well, I much agree with Avisnigra. The army lists are not enough balanced, and they are too few. This tournament follow the format in a Pike&Shot tournament I play and in P&S there are lots of army list. Not sure why there are so few i BA2, maybe Slitherine doesn't prioritises BA2 at the moment? One really great thing in P&S is that one of the leading developer is among us playing tournaments and campaigns and we can give him feedback personally.
This tournament is an experiment from my side to try out the P&S format using skirmish mode. I think the tournament format works just fine with the challenger telling his opponent which two army list that will fight and then the opponent choose side. The challenger can't just pick one poor army list and one really good as then he most probably end up playing the poor one. But as there are too few army list, and with the German Mech'41 doesn't give any buying options with medium armies there's not much variety.
But still I have much fun playing.
I don't blame anyone wanting to leave the tournament, but I hope we can play it to its end and then send a summary of our experiences about the skirmish mode in BA2 to Slitherine, hoping that they will improve this feature of the game.
If you ask me I find playing scenarios more fun than skirmish battles, but as it is now I don't have time working on scenarios for a tournament. Best of all would be to start a GJS style campaign, but that's just too much work, sadly...
