Okinawa US

Post by Longasc »

I made it to Okinawa, ships, planes and men are in fine shape, morale and resources are high. :)

Now I wonder - anything special I should be prepared for on Okinawa or is it more a "if you made it past Leyte, you will make this, too" scenario?

As usual, thanks for your input and sharing your experiences!

The last two scenarios as the US are more of a grind than necessarily difficult. The only tricky part was getting supply to my troops in the north, you have to come up with a plan for that. It is probably best to just march all the way across the forest terrain. Otherwise, just take it slow and steady, and look out for Kamikazes. Oh, and good luck finding the caves. I looked all over the map and still ended up missing one.

Thank you, I will think about the northern supply situation.

How do you discover "caves", by stumbling over them on ground or is there a trick?

Caves have the same trait as Commandos/Raiders, they can only be spotted by adjacent infantry, or when trying to move to/through their hex with any ground unit.

Cave was easy to find but tank can't see them so use infantry to comb the area helps. Once found just use zippos to burn them hehehe. IMO Okinawa is the easiest scenario in the entire US campaign which is strange as in history Okinawa is one of the hardest battle.

Tips: BB help a lot so bring 2-3 and I have 6 arty 4 long Tom and 2 priest which is why it's seems easy

I placed 4 Marines and 3 Marine Raiders far North and sent 3 Destroyers and 3 Patrol Gunboats along. If this is not Raider land, there is no place for Raiders.
After doing so I placed a Squadron of 5 Patrol Boats in the South to intercept kamikaze boats.

I am now going to distribute Kingfishers and ships, then the ground units and planes according to their placement.

The 10 resource cost for a sneak attack... dunno. Rather wish it had a recharge of 3 or so.
