Matrix and/or Slitherine

Post by Yogi the Great »

Ok just curious I guess, I have about 20 Matrix/Slitherine games

Some of the games show the logos for both companies but some show just Matrix and some show just Slitherine.

(Game may also show the logo of the developing company such as Aristocrats)

I also noticed that while a game may be sold on both sites, the main forum for the game may only be on one site.

Anyway does this have to do with the contract between the developer being only with Matrix or only with Slitherine? Or a decision by Matrix/Slitherine to only fully support with one of the companies?

Again just curious.

Not sure, but it seems to me that when they merged, they did not fully merge, so that some dev teams still consider themself matrix and some slitherine.
I wish they would work on this, I tend to use matrix and the forum there, but it seems that posting on things there when the game is slitherine is very unlikely to be noticed unfortunately.

Yes I started and stayed with the Matrix forum and for game ordering, but I have certainly noticed that in some cases for some games the Slitherine forum seems to have more significant discussions and information.

My interest and reason for the question was peaked recently when Brother Against Brother didn't get a thread started for the game here at Slitherine. That was quite a surprise especially since the game covers a popular area of interest, is very innovative and unique and has been highly rated. You can buy the game on Slitherine site but no real forum discussion. It is one of the games that does not have the Slitherine logo. Order of Battle Pacific on the other hand doesn't have a Matrix logo yet there is a thread for the game on the Matrix forum. :?:

about time and would make sense if it was just one board and not just a jumble of many, in time it maybe i guess, but for now it doesn't work imo

Hi guys,

both Slitherine & Matrix are strong companies with strong communities and identities. If we used the Matrix forum as the basis for the future it would alienate Slitherine customers and vice versa.

We've experimented with various approaches over the last 5 years and we've decided the best thing to do is make all games available via both sites but to focus on presenting the games that each community is looking for. The Matrix audience is more interested in deeper hardcore strategy games and so we only put up news that is relevant to that. We only promote games that appeal to that audience. Hardcore wargames are Matrix branded - e.g. War in the West, Brother Against Brother etc. Slitherine games are general aimed at a slightly wider market though to the rest of the industry are still hardcore strategy games. This covers games like Panzer Coprs, Pandora, Order of Battle etc. These games are Slitherine branded.

We could just combine everything but we think we'd have a lot of unhappy people it we did. It would certainly make life simpler to do that but the simplest option is not always the best. To avoid duplicated forums the plan going forwards is to have only one forum per game either on Slitherine or Matrix, depending which umbrella it is under. You'll see a redirect in the forum pushing you to the appropriate forum on the other site. The combined login system should allow you to use your credentials on either site and if not tech support will sort it out (there were some logical issues with combining some accounts due to duplicated usernames and it takes a bit of manual setup to sort it all out).

My main site I go to for CTGW is Matrix, Hands down is a better site than Slitherine. Sorry Slitherine, it's just my honest opinion.

Slitherines Spartan and Medieval Conquest are my favorites. Matrixgames Distant Worlds and Norbsoft's Civilwar series and Battle Academy I. Panther or LnL now I think Command Ops and Mark Walkers Heroes of Stalingrad.

I would have given Slitherines Field of Glory cudo's but the AI in that game is horrendous and no fun to play against. I hope Field of Glory II ai is a lot better. Please Slitherine don't make it so multiplayer friendly only.
