comanders with routed units

Post by stork »

Two Questions came up in our game Sunday.
1.Can a comander who is fighting with a BG that routs, leave that BG if a Enemy BG remains in contact after thier rout move?
2. What happens to a comander who is with a BG that is removed for reaching it's break point?

My Fatamid lancers spent a lot of time chaseing Celtic warbands with comanders around the table (wether I wanted them to or not)

Also what happens to an army that loses all it's comanders?

1. Yes

Pg 101. "A commander who is with a BG at the moment it breaks must rout with it once. Until the joint action phase he cannot leave the BG..."
Pg 108 "Removing bases from routing BGs"

With other words; the general must rout with the BG just after breaking, but once in the JAP he can leave the BG before it routs again.
You have to take into account that there's no close combat with routed BGs, just automatic bases removal, therefore the general is free to move once the first rout has been made.

2.

Pg 168 "Full turn sequence"
Pg 101 (see above)

The autobroken BG has to make an initial rout move at the end of the impact / shooting / melee phase. The general will rout with them
During the JAP you can move your commander before the remaining bases of the autobroken BG are removed

Disaster - no commanders means no bonuses and no bolstering.
