Roman artillery on carts

Post by stenic »

So which way were the mounted ? To fire over the draught animal, the back or the side ?

Not a critical issue but I'd not want to disturb anyoone's concentration by having them wrong in a game

Thanks

From the images on Trajan's column they are firing over the carts.

I don't have a decent image to hand but I think that if you do a google on Trajan's column you may find exactly what you are looking for.

Ta. Google is indeed our friend :

Not pefectly clear but it does seem to suggest point forward. I suppose though the clever Romans would have had them swivle mounted so they could turn them for aiming.

They surely could have used a small dog to pull carts that size though

don't ask too many question!!!!

remember what happenened to the nice artillery on elephant (El (X) in DBM) when our rulers discovered it may be bagage elephant carrying artillery they decided not to allow artillery on elephant for FOG.

They may do the same for ur mules if u comment too much, so chhhhht

Here is an interesting discussion thread on the subject, from the Roman Army Talk forum:

I personally take the 'conservative' view on this one, but I also realize that some wargamers do enjoy the variety and spice added by ancient 'wonder weapons.'

Cheers,
Scott
