Gretchins butchered terminators - nice random rolls

I got totally shocked than 75 lowly gretchin attacked 10 65 armor assault terminators ( 3 skulls experience ) in 20% cover and killed THREE of them (3 hp each) with 20 damage sluggas - strangely melee choppas scored zero damage. After seeing gretchin stats im kind of puzzled how this is possible at all. With 15 ranged accuracy -10 for range and -20% for cover. Its NINE 5% hits possible even lower as gretchin attacked with yellow morale. Looks like initiative dont work in angels dlc at all. I see enemy forces retaliating with full strenght then 3-4 left after initial attack.

Sorry to hear you had a bad run of the dice there. =/

That is definitely the danger of the over-sized Ork units though, they can sometimes pull off unexpected results just from the absolute sheer number of attack dice being thrown out. It's also why we limited the utter vastness of Ork unit formation sizes initially, and why such oversized mobs of infantry are the exception when encountered, not the rule. :)

That scenario you are on, the Helsreach map where they appear in droves, I definitely suggest softening them up a little bit with 2 range bolter fire or other ranged anti-infantry weapons before sending in the terminators to really clear them out 30 or 40 or even 50 at a time. The Baal predator is especially good at quickly burning through those swarms of Gretchin!

When you run into a group of Gretchens armed with power tools, back away slowly, and then run. A naked squad of Terminators do not make a pretty sight.

Actually, a few years back I witnessed an Ork player do this exact thing to a Space Marine player in the tabletop game. The Ork player had 40 gretchin armed with basic gretchin ranged weapons go against a 5-man Terminator squad with a character. In addition, the Ork plyer had pinned the Termies up against a piece of terrain, preventing any escape. Round 1 had the Termies reduced to the character and two other Termies at the cost of a few gretchin. Round 2 saw the gretchin finish off the Termies and character. The Ork player was essentially playing the odds that the huge number of dice he rolled against the Termies would overcome saving throws and that the mass of gretchin could absorb the inevitable casualties before they needed to take a morale check...the gamble payed off.

If the game is using a similar algorithm to simulate dice rolls, then we get to see history repeat itself. I admit that software-simulated dice rolls may not be able to simulate the variables, vagaries and nuances of a skilled player tossing some cubes, but it is usually close enough.
