Unit purchases - how to make them automatically rename?
Is there any way to make a certain type of unit be purchased with a customised name by default?
For instance, say I decide to add a new extremely overpowered unit (think 20 Mause in 1) and want it to be purchased with the name "Giant Doom Unit" by default, and then the second one purchased to be called "Steel Crusher 2000". However If I then go and purchase a Tiger then the game will still generate the name "XXth Tiger I" for that unit.
I think I have seen somewhere a way of making the game generate battalion names to build the corps, but is there a way of assigning it to one specific unit type while the (1000) others alone?

Why you not replying?
I want purchased cities to be able to spawn with cool names rather than '403rd City'.

The amount of infrastructre in Europe was significantly larger in 51 AD than in 280 BC. So I thought that buyable towns would be a good idea (I think that Battlefield Europe has a Strongpoint Construction Kit - it would work in a similar way).
The purchased cities work on the map as immobile recon units, providing 3-4 sight everywhere near them. And they will slightly increase the size of your army.
(If you haven't figured this out yet, It's for the Rome mod)

Your best bet is to used the mod mentioned.
If I remember correctly it could have different names with different classes

I believe he refers to an online unit name generator, not a mod for the game.

Dissapointing... I was hoping there would be a way for the game to automate all that.Hanny wrote:I believe he refers to an online unit name generator, not a mod for the game.

Just a thought, but if its a new type of unit, dont you define its name in the first place?, when adding it to the file, and then the program gives it a number.

That's true, but I don't want every purchased city to have the same name. And making new names for every of 660 turns is really a waste of time.

Ok, then if you cant edit it so as to provide a custom name, then instead just have each city as a seperate unit with name, and purchase them, i assume its the player not the AI doing this, so you still get the right named city in the region you want, unless you hit the max number of slots of unit types, you should be ok i think.

Yes, I figured I'd have to do that. Anyway if you want to suggest so Roman-style names I could use, please PM me the list. I have a bunch at the moment but more are always welcome!Hanny wrote:Ok, then if you cant edit it so as to provide a custom name, then instead just have each city as a seperate unit with name, and purchase them, i assume its the player not the AI doing this, so you still get the right named city in the region you want, unless you hit the max number of slots of unit types, you should be ok i think.

Im sure you have your own concept for this, but if you have a selection of custom cities, you can introduce an element of styles of cities, ie Legionary Fortress (Xanten on the Rhine, defended gateway to Germania), in game terms high defence low line of sight, Provincial oppodium, (Londinium in England, established to transfer grain to the continet and destroy commerce based in the english SW to Gaul,) high in Line of sight low in defence, add in spawning of tribal rebellions in hexes that the Empire has no line of sight and you as the player then have to think what type of city you want.
http://pelagios.dme.ait.ac.at/maps/greco-roman/# should give you plenty to use.
Lastly, i would go for a manipluar and cohort based Roman Army system, changing the core units available from when control of a city in Spain ( as it was in Spain the manover element of the cohort became the principle one, despite both staying in use for period. http://www.scribd.com/doc/29391428/Armi ... -to-146-BC

Re: Unit purchases - how to make them automatically rename?
Seeing as I don't want to overcomplicate things, I have simply made cities 'sight beacons' - high LOS and no attack power. However as the game goes on they will become more important, increasing the core size etc.
That map is pretty cool though!
