Few Issues & Bugs

Post by jzardos »

Well I starting play week back when 1.4 beta was out and was not able to play tactical battles as they crashed when AI did turn. Think hotfix addressed it?

Here's some of the issues (bugs?) I'm struggling with

- Spells don't seem to be worth much? As Hadrigel there's a spell to pick on elite human unit to have cost no upkeep, seems it's only ONE unit for spell? Can only have 5 spells? Hard to tell, but only 5 slots and can't learn any more. Can you unlearn a spell to free a slot to learn a different one?

- Unit experience seems to be broken in 1.3 (reverted back). I've fought hundreds of battles and killed hundreds of enemy units, but have not got any units to vet up since about turn 20? Also, is unit gaining exp just random or does each unit actually track it's ownm exp?

- Unit health, why is there no way (or none I can find) to see actually unit HP / life points? Only a bar which is proportional to units max points, so not entirely as useful as seeing #'s

- Why is annexing a capital have such horrible ramification? I can understand it being a bit of diplomatic suicide, but seems it's never a good idea unless you can fight off every other race as they will DoW you afterwards.

- Are more race units going to be available? I do like all the artwork on current units, but the variety is very limited per faction.

- Need something to do between turns for smaller factions, maybe hero quests or something. Seems many times just clicking end turn and waiting for AI to move. Can be very boring part of the game.

Game has long way to go, but think it could be winning if some game play issues / bugs addressed.

Spells (and Landmarks) will get a balancing pass a bit further into EA. In general, a lot of other abilities and units in the game powered up, and spells and landmarks stayed where they were. The result is that they feel a bit underpowered for the most part right now.

Is your army staying at about the same size?

That's something we will add.

Right now pretty much everyone redlines, which isn't where we want to be.
Diplomatic hits to will get a balancing pass that mitigates the immediate hit, but slowly begins to turn all nations against you as you annex more capitols.

We will add some units over time.

We'll look at that once the big bugs and immediate features slot in. Right now, the big push is on the conversion to OpenGL. Once that's in, we'll be focusing harder on the AI, plus some features like adding a new Unit class.

Good Hunting!

Yes, it is. Is this something that is affecting exp unit gains? I'm leaving my armies intact and only adding units when need. Major armies max'd out at 20 units. Seems very hard for ships to gain exp too, only see it twice in two hundred naval kills.

As your units gain medals, medals awarded become rarer and rarer. The game tries to keep an equilibrium of awards so that awards remain special. This maxes out at about 10% of your army (including ships). This means that if you are maxed out currently, adding more units to your army will indirectly reduce the percentage of units with medals...making more units again eligible for awards.

Looking at it more simply, as your empire grows, so to do the number of units with medals.

Im not sure I agree with setting a hard limit around this 10%. Each unit should track it's own exp as it gains lvl. I don't think the game currently has the concept of unit exp or more than one unit level? Each level would just be exponentially harder to reach. This problem with unit levels and game balance has already been solved in a similar fashion for many of the top selling turn based strategic games.. Age of Wonders to just name one.

Hope your devs reconsider this unit exp limitation.

Also, so when you unpin a spell can you gain more spell points. End result being able to learn all your faction spells?

thanks
